The Steward School is seeking an enthusiastic, team-oriented Middle School Academic Dean for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a full-time, 10.5-month Middle School Administrative position with full benefits, reporting directly to the Director of Middle School.
Primary Responsibility:
Maintains commitment to Mission and Philosophy of The School in programs, policies, and curricula.
Academic Dean Responsibilities:
Serves as a member of the Middle School Administrative Team and represents the Middle School at school-wide events, parent meetings, and social events as requested.
Chairs the Middle School Academic Committee and ensures effective coordination and communication between Middle School department chairs and other divisional academic deans.
Oversees the accurate completion of curriculum mapping, textbook selection (as applicable), communications regarding academic requirements (summer assignments, textbooks, etc.), JK-12 curricular alignment, and MySchoolApp communications and training for faculty members.
Teaches the Problem-Solving Seminar to one grade level in the Middle School.
In consultation with the Division Director, coordinates Middle School professional development activities, guest speakers, training opportunities, in-service education programs, and other professional development exercises.
Coordinates summer grant applications and approvals and tracks MS faculty professional development completion.
Trains and supports teachers in differentiation, writing across the curriculum, interdisciplinary work, assessment, and other initiatives as they arise.
Assists the Division Director with faculty evaluation, teacher observations, and report card editing.
In consultation with the Division Director, formulates the Middle School master schedule and student schedules.
Onboards new faculty in all aspects of Steward's academic policies, procedures, and operating systems (MySchoolApp, homework calendars, curriculum mapping, and other reporting as required) and oversees the Middle School new faculty mentorship program.
Oversees substitute teachers using the Red Rover management system and ensures classroom coverage as needed
Serves as a member of the Program Steering Committee charged with making policies and decisions related to curriculum and academic programs.
Serves as co-chair of the Program Committee and, in collaboration with the other academic deans, is charged with setting the meeting agenda, sharing information among divisions, and discussing program changes.
Assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
A Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction or a related field.
Middle school teaching experience.
The ability to employ a variety of teaching and assessment techniques.
excellent written and oral communication skills.
a strong desire to work in a collaborative learning environment employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional development.
The desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals.
An understanding of and passion for equity and inclusion, and the ability to design curriculum, instruction, and assessment in order to teach a diverse community of learners.
