The Counseling Center at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) is currently seeking applications and expressions of interest for a Clinical Counselor to join our Counseling Center. This is a full-time, .833 FTE, 12-month, benefits-eligible position.
In addition to providing direct clinical services, the Clinical Counselor plays an important role in prevention programming, campus consultation, crisis response, and collaboration with campus and community partners to support student well-being.
This Master's or Doctoral-level therapist has the opportunity to facilitate the health and well-being of the EOU campus community by providing students with both short- and longer-term therapy, education, crisis intervention, consultation, and mental health services in an affirming, respectful, compassionate, and inclusive environment. Given that this is a two-person Counseling Center, the Clinical Counselor will also have the opportunity to experience a highly collaborative relationship with the Counseling Center director, while also assisting the director in managing some administrative and clinical operations.
To function well in this position, the person needs to:
Have the desire to live and work in a rural area and, therefore, the ability and desire to manage multiple and dual relationships.
Have the clinical skills and presence to practice cultural humility; to work effectively, sensitively, and compassionately with diverse populations.
Have a demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace.
Be able to conduct short and longer-term treatment from a developmental perspective
Be able to build professionally collaborative working relationships, both on campus and within the community.
Have proficiency in oral and written communication skills and in leading group discussions
Have the desire to engage in extensive outreach activities both within the curricular and co-curricular arenas.
Have the ability to keep good client records and use Titanium scheduler/database.
Take initiative and be flexible in response to developing demands and challenges of the position; recognizing that the EOU Counseling Center consists of only 2 therapists - the director and the person hired for this position.
Be able to function autonomously as the person in this position will be responsible for managing the clinical aspects of the Counseling Center in the absence of the Director .
Be available and willing to participate in and conduct occasional evening or weekend activities.
Be open to working a 12-month; .833 FTE with "peak" (during the academic year) and "non-peak" (during summer months and winter break) work times.
This position may provide supervision toward Oregon licensure for qualified candidates and offers opportunities for professional growth and development within a collaborative counseling center environment.
Because this position requires strong written communication skills, including the preparation of clinical documentation and the communication of clinical information to clients, we ask that applicants complete all portions of the application independently and without the use of AI-generated content.
