Founded in 1873, Notre Dame Preparatory School (NDP) is a Catholic, independent, college-preparatory school for girls in grades 6–12 located on a beautiful 65-acre campus in Towson, Maryland. Position Overview
Notre Dame Preparatory School seeks a compassionate, collaborative, and student-centered Middle Level School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and personal development of students in grades 6–8. Grounded in the mission and values of an all-girls, Catholic, independent school, the Middle Level School Counselor fosters student well-being through individual and small-group counseling, classroom instruction, consultation with faculty and families, crisis response, and proactive programming that promotes resilience, healthy relationships, self-advocacy, and personal growth.
Working closely with members of the School Counseling Department, Middle Level Administration, faculty, and families, the counselor helps create a supportive and inclusive environment in which every student is known, valued, and empowered to thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
This full-time, 10-month position runs August 17, 2026 - June 15, 2027, to include new employee orientation August 17 - 19, 2026. Actual reporting dates assigned per school calendar.
Core Responsibilities
Design and deliver developmentally appropriate social-emotional learning curriculum for Middle Level students.
Teach classes and facilitate discussions on topics including emotional regulation, healthy relationships, self-awareness, decision-making, stress management, digital citizenship, and leadership.
Support programs that promote belonging, confidence, resilience, and healthy adolescent development in girls.
Provide short-term individual school counseling and support for students experiencing academic, social-emotional, behavioral, or personal challenges.
Identify students in need of additional support, assess concerns, coordinate appropriate interventions, and monitor student progress.
Facilitate small-group counseling and support programs based on identified student needs.
Maintain appropriate documentation and confidentiality in accordance with ethical and professional standards.
Make recommendations and referrals to outside mental health professionals and community resources when appropriate.
Collaborate with school administrators, families, and community mental health providers to coordinate care and support.
Participate in the development and implementation of student wellness initiatives and prevention programs.
Partner with faculty, advisors, administrators, and families to support student success and well-being.
Consult with teachers regarding student concerns and strategies for supporting diverse student needs.
Participate in student support meetings and multidisciplinary teams.
Contribute to the planning and implementation of grade-level programming, student transitions, and community-building initiatives.
Participate actively in departmental meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide initiatives.
Remain current with best practices and emerging trends in school counseling, adolescent development, and student wellness.
Engage fully as a member of the Middle Level community and contribute positively to the life of the school.
Qualification and Expertise
Master's degree in School Counseling.
Minimum of two years of experience working with middle school-aged students in a school setting.
Strong understanding of adolescent development, social-emotional learning, and the unique needs of middle school girls.
Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
Knowledge of crisis intervention, risk assessment, and referral processes.
Excellent communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of the School Counseling department and the NDP Middle Level community.

Compensation & Benefits
Notre Dame Preparatory School offers a competitive, market-aligned compensation package commensurate with the seniority, scope, and impact of this role. The anticipated salary range is $55,000-$70,000 with flexibility for exceptional candidates along with a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement contributions, disability and life insurance, and generous paid time off.
