Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Academic Affairs and Programs, you will be one of the primary academic advisors for 700+ undergraduate students studying in the Bachelor of Science (BSI) degree program. This advising role will span from the point of matriculation to graduation. You will also be the primary contact for students pursuing undergraduate minors at UMSI, and have opportunities to oversee special projects related to new academic program initiatives.

Offer accurate and compassionate advising for undergraduate students from matriculation through graduation through one-on-one meetings (in person and virtual) and targeted programs/events.
Guide students through curriculum requirements and academic planning. Help students understand the BSI curriculum, degree requirements, and academic policies, and support them with course selection, multi-term planning, and interpreting degree audits.
Create and share clear academic planning resources and communications. Develop, and distribute advising resources and messaging so students can make informed decisions and know where to find support.
Identify and support students facing academic challenges. Use data and reporting processes to spot barriers early. Conduct outreach, keep case notes, connect students to the right resources, and escalate urgent or complex situations to the appropriate leaders.
Collaborate to strengthen student success, wellness, and retention efforts. Partner with advisors and campus teams, such as the Registrar, Career Development, and Engaged Learning, to deliver group advising. Coordinate advising strategies and plans, and contribute advising-informed input to program improvements.
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year university or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
2-3 years of experience advising/mentoring college students, or related experience, with knowledge of student development theory and academic advising best practices.
Demonstrated experience establishing positive, respectful, and collaborative working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
Demonstrated experience communicating policies such as degree requirements, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated experience maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of student records and other sensitive information.

Salary Information The salary range for this position is $57,000 to $62,000. Salary is determined by direct relevant experience and demonstrated past performance results while ensuring equity on our team. While rare, we may offer a salary above the posted range for an exceptionally qualified candidate, considering internal equity and budget. All candidates are encouraged to discuss salary questions to honor alignment and transparency throughout the recruiting process.
