TH Instructional Support Assistant - Genetic Counseling
The Stony Brook Medicine Genetic Counseling Service is lookg to add a qualified TH Instructional Support Assistant to the team in order to maintain operations of a small clinical practice that includes four genetic counselors, a physician geneticist and a waiting room.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior communication and organization skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Duties of the TH Instructional Support Assistant - Genetic Counseling may include the following but are not limited to:
Maintain daily operations in support of the Genetic Counseling outpatient practice. Liaise with other hospital departments such as Patient Access, Purchasing, Information Technology and the Associate Director's office as needed in support of clinic operations.
Provide telephone reception, patient scheduling and record keeping, and preparation of official documentation, data collection and processing of communication into and out of the office in an efficient and timely manner.
Provide intake of patient information including insurance information, medical history, diagnosis information and laboratory documentation. Retrieve patient medical records from Health Information Management as required.
Obtain authorization forms and insurance referral information. Coordinate specialized laboratory testing as needed, prepare patient chart prior to visit.
Responsible for billing of genetic counseling services. Performs billing audits in conjunction with Patient Access staff.
Maintain database of genetic consultations as well as patient no-show lists.
Order and inventory office supplies utilizing the Lawson materials management system and track clinic-related expenses for annual budgetary purposes.
Reviews workflow processes and makes suggestions for improvement.
Must be comfortable working independently on a small team. Maintain a professional, courteous and helpful demeanor. Demonstrate a high degree of understanding and empathy for others especially during the most stressful situations.
Perform other duties as appropriate.
Required Qualifications: Associate's Degree. At least 2 years of administrative experience in a clinical/medical practice setting. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or higher. F amiliarity with medical terminology and laboratory testing. Fluency in Spanish.

In accordance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) order that all hospitals and nursing homes "continuously require all covered personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19."
