Deerfield Academy, a private coeducational boarding school founded in 1797 and annually serving approximately 650 students grades 9-12, seeks a College Advisor with a start date in July 2026.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility will be assisting students and parents throughout the college application process. Candidates will educate and counsel students and parents about college selection, application, admission, financial aid and scholarship processes, independently and in group settings. They will also provide structured guidance and feedback on applications to help students represent themselves effectively, including interview preparation, and they will write the school counselor recommendation letter for all advisees.
Other significant responsibilities will include leading co-curricular activities (varsity or sub-varsity teams, community service activities, publications, etc.), dormitory residence or supervision, advising, committee work, and family-style dining hall meals with students. Faculty also have opportunities to design and lead domestic and international travel programs.
Qualifications:
We are looking for candidates who can build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, college representatives, students, and parents. Candidates will help students develop the fundamental learning traits outlined in The Deerfield Student and A Framework For Schools. Candidates must be prepared to fully engage in the activities and less formal spaces that help define a strong residential educational community. Additionally, candidates for this position will possess the following specific attributes/qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
1-3 years of College Advising related experience preferred.
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Strong work ethic, high energy, and excellent organizational skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment with close attention to detail.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
Ability to manage and maintain strict confidentiality.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite; experience with Naviance, or a similar platform, preferred.
Willingness and ability to travel as required.
Working Conditions:
Close visual acuity to analyze data and figures and view a computer terminal
Ability to sustain substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects of up to 5 pounds
Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel and reach
