The anticipated end date is August 30, 2030. While the grant is currently awarded through that date, funding is subject to annual congressional appropriation. The position may be renewed for another five-year cycle beginning in 2030, contingent on continued funding.Job DescriptionThe TRIO SSS Advisor provides professional level academic, admissions, career, financial aid, and transfer advising services for TRIO/Student Support Services participants at Inver Hills Community College. The SSS Advisor works with the SSS Program Director to meet the goals and objectives of the Department of Education funded grant by retaining, graduating, and transferring students.Responsibilities include:Provide academic, career, and transfer advising to support retention and improve academic performance of Student Support Services (SSS) program participants.Develop, implement, and document student support activities that fulfill the mission and objectives of the TRIO SSS grant.Provide financial aid advising to ensure accurate and compliant administration of federal, state, and institutional aid programs, including grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study.Maintain accurate records and documentation of program participantsâ™ performance and participation for program evaluation and reporting per federal TRIO/SSS grant requirements and ensuring program meets US Department of Education regulations. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.Salary Range:$25.67 - $37.26/Hour; $53,599 - $77,799 AnnuallyMinimum Qualifications (Must be reflected on resume/application)Bachelorâ™s DegreeBackground in serving populations such as first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities.Experience in student advising, assessing student needs and coordinating servicesAbility to communicate clearly and work effectively with individuals.Comprehensive computer and related technology skills, including web-based resourcesPreferred QualificationThree years of experience advising students with issues similar to those faced by SSS participantsMasterâ™s Degree in Counseling, Student Affairs, Education or related fieldKnowledge of TRIO and/or federal grant programsExperience managing a caseload and case filesFamiliarity with student development theory, student success and engagement research and related materialsKnowledge of FERPA, MN Data Practices, and Higher Education policies and proceduresOther RequirementsIn accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCUâ™s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)Monday - Friday; 8:30am - 5:00pm; a few times a year may work eveningsTelework (Yes/No)Yes; May be eligible for 1 day of telework, based upon the need of the department.Internal ApplicantsAll current Minnesota State employees will need to log into Workday to apply for the position via the Jobs Hub. About Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, System Office
With its 31 institutions, including 24 two-year colleges and seven state universities, the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system is the largest single provider of higher education in the state of Minnesota. The colleges and universities operate 54 campuses in 47 Minnesota communities and serve about 250,000 students in credit-based courses. Overall, the system produces about 33,500 graduates each year. In addition to credit-based courses, the system offers customized training programs that serve about 153,200 employees from 6,000 Minnesota businesses each year. The law creating the system was passed by the Minnesota Legislature in 1991 and went into effect July 1, 1995.
