Established in 1969, Ramapo College offers bachelor’s degrees in the arts, business, humanities, social sciences and the sciences, as well as in professional studies, which include business, elementary education, nursing and social work. The College offers part-time graduate programs leading to degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, Educational Technology, Educational Leadership, Nursing, Social Work and Special Education.
Under the direction of the OSS Assistant Director, supports objectives of a US Department of Education TRIO Student Support Services grant by serving as primary point person regarding assistive technology (AT) and other accommodations for students with physical, sensory, psychological, and/or learning disabilities. Responsibilities include assisting in arrangement of appropriate academic adjustments and/or support services for OSS students, including: demonstrations and training with adaptive equipment and/or software, materials in alternate formats, specialized tutoring, and alternative testing conditions which require the use of adaptive technology. Also responsible for encouraging and supporting an environment throughout the college that is accessible, both architecturally and attitudinally, for students with disabilities. Promotes equal access through coordination of efforts with on and off-campus entities, programs, and agencies.
Provide assistive technology (AT) demonstrations, instruction, and support to students with disabilities in OSS ATECH computer lab.
Assist in coordinating operations of the ATECH lab regarding daily staffing, protocols, monitoring authorized usage, and overseeing general maintenance of the facilities as well as software installations and upgrades.
Perform administrative tasks required to implement AT objectives, including outreach to students, book publishers, software suppliers, AT lending libraries, faculty, staff, and administration; planning and scheduling TRIO grant-related activities; data collection and record-keeping.
Assist in the implementation of alternative testing and specialized tutoring support for students affiliated with OSS.
May implement other academic adjustments for students with disabilities according to accommodations plan provided by OSS advisors.
Carry out other duties as assigned within OSS that contribute to everyday office
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree from accredited institution in education, human services area, educational technology, or a related field preferred. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute assistive technology experience on a year for year basis.
• One year of experience in education, human services, counseling, advisement, or other position involving extensive interpersonal contact.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including sensitivity to the needs of students with disabilities; ability to maintain appropriate professional confidentiality.
Knowledge of assistive technology, commercial products, and services appropriate to the needs of students with disabilities preferred; willingness to learn assistive technology applications required.
Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and have good problem solving skills.
Excellent writing and oral communication skills. Excellent organization and attention to detail.
Basic computer skills and working knowledge of word-processing, email, spreadsheet, and data base application programs.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
