Job Summary:
Direct and coordinate the publication of the College's student-produced Web site, newspaper and annual "Year in Review" publication for the Roy H. Park School of Communications. Advise and instruct students on professional and ethical reporting, writing and editing. Serve as supervising publisher and critique publications for accuracy, fairness, balance, and style. Oversee and monitor publication budgets. Develop and maintain relationships with alumni and other professionals in order to identify internship sites and employment opportunities for current students.

Essential Duties:
- Coordinate and train student staff in the use of technologies necessary for publication.
- Develop, prepare, supervise and monitor budgets for the student publications.
- Maintain high visibility during the publications' working hours, including some evenings and weekends.
- Establish professional standards and expectations for the publications' production and management techniques; news content and coverage; and editorial policies.
- Critique student publications both formally in writing, and informally through ongoing conversations and feedback.
- Develop and present non-credit workshops and seminars for writers, photographers, and production staff.
- Develop and update handbooks and policy manuals, including but not limited to job descriptions, rules, procedures, policies, and regulations for student staff.
- Meet regularly with student executive staff to coordinate, monitor, guide, and evaluate the publication's operations.
- Maintain formal contract relationships with printers and vendors.
- Develop, supervise and coordinate appropriate and necessary sales, promotion, publicity, advertising, and other related activities. Develop a specific promotional campaign for the College's "Year in Review" publication.
- Supervise personnel actions within the publications staff, including but not limited to appointments, promotions, and dismissals.
- Inform the Dean of issues and concerns as necessary.
- Serve as a representative of student publications at career fairs, recruiting functions, open houses, and other public events.
- Identify and develop internship and employment opportunities for current students among Park alumni and non-alumni
- Serve as needed as the liaison between the student publications (Ithacan, Ithacan Online, and the Year in Review) and/or as a member of a team of faculty teaching multimedia journalism and other communications classes.
- Offer workshops and other mini-courses upon request in content areas associated with skills and issues related to journalism publications.
- In consultation with the Deans’ Office, and/or Program Directors/Chairs, teach one full journalism-related course per year for the Park School.
Work Environment:
Most of the work of the incumbent is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor environment. The incumbent will be required to use a personal computer and associated equipment as well as other office equipment used in the day-to-day operations. The incumbent may need to deliver various materials on campus requiring the ability to walk or drive or make other travel arrangements.
