Responsible for assisting in the operation and management of the athletic training function, which provides athletic training services to all intercollegiate student-athletes in the department. Individual reports to the Head Athletic Trainer.

Essential Job Functions:

• Evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries to student-athletes;
• Use of therapeutic modalities in the management of athletic injuries;
• Apply protective taping and bracing to support student-athlete;
• Documenting and interpreting appropriate information gathered from a variety of sources, including the medical record, physician, student-athlete, and family;
• Work with strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness and conditioning programs to meet individual student-athlete needs;
• Coordinate with team physician, Parsons Student Health Center, and counselors to ensure proper care and referral for medical and mental health issues;
• Administer first-aid to student-athletes;
• Recommend reconditioning procedures of equipment and devices according to NCAA guidelines;
• Supervise safety factors of athletic competition by ensuring elimination of undue hazards (including monitoring of weather and lightning in accordance with our departmental policies);
• Contribute to the overall success of the department by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned;

  Education and Experience

  Master’s Degree, NATA-BOC certification, license from the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure, and at least one year of clinical experience that is directly related to the job functions above are required. 

   

  Knowledge and Skills

  Ability to react appropriately in emergency situations and handle stressful environments.   Knowledge of athletic training theory and practice as well as the skills and ability to educate student-athletes, coaches, and parents about risk management and care plans.  A commitment to the Division III philosophy; a commitment to diversity and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations; and knowledge of NCAA and SAA rules are essential.  Additional qualifications include communication skills that allow for the ability to teach, motivate, and counsel student-athletes effectively as well as being self-motivated, positive, energetic, eager to teach, and a willingness to travel.  Ability to foster a team environment as well as the ability and desire to work successfully within a team-oriented athletic department is essential.

   

  Physical Requirements:

  Moderate physical activity.  Requires handling of moderately heavy objects up to 25 lbs.  Standing or walking for several hours per day.
