SUMMARY
SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for a Mental Health Counselor position. Reporting to the Director of the Counseling Center in the Hazen Center for Integrated Care, this position provides a wide range of direct mental health services to all enrolled students, develops and implements mental health programs for the campus community, and collaborates with on-and off-campus partners to ensure students are able to access all appropriate resources. This is a full-time, 11-month position with the month of June off.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:
Interacts with student clients in a clinical counseling capacity including facilitating mental health assessments, developing treatment plans, utilizing individual and/or group therapy, and arranging for appropriate follow up care which may include referring the student to a community behavioral health provider or other campus or community resource.
Manages crisis situations when necessary.
Completes clinical documentation utilizing the department's electronic medical records system.
Collaborates with and provides consultation and support to campus partners on college mental health related issues.
Develops, coordinates, and facilitates programming for students, faculty and/or staff as requested.
Contributes to the integrated model of care by attending and participating in Hazen Clinic meetings, and engages in the ongoing development and assessment of innovative services.
Non-Essential Functions:
Serves on appropriate campus and departmental committees as requested.
Attends and supports university-wide events.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in counseling, social work or closely related field by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by a US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
NYS Licensed (or eligible for a limited permit/licensure) to practice mental health counseling
Experience working with, and ability to engage with a diverse client/student population
Preferred Qualifications:
3 years of professional, supervised counseling experience working in a mental health setting
