Job Description:
This position exists to develop learning experiences that ensure participants in MinnState courses and training programs have a quality learning experience that aligns with the desired learning outcomes and drives them to take additional MinnState courses or recommend them to others.
Under limited supervision, provide instructional design expertise and project management to instructors and subject matter experts in the design, selection, and/or development of appropriate instructional content, methods, materials, and delivery systems of flexible course modules for credit, non-credit, and customized training.
Design could include researching customer usability, developing evaluation instruments, and creating/modifying activities for virtual, asynchronous online, synchronous high-flex or hybrid learning.
Partner and consult with instructors and subject matter experts to:
assess learner needs and situational factors; design goals and objectives, assessments, and activities to meet learner and institutional needs using current instructional design methods
develop and continuously improve courses and programs in support of web-enhanced and online instruction using a variety of tools that include but are not restricted to: eLearning authoring, collaboration tools, media, interactive case studies, low-fidelity simulations, and remote proctoring, with emphasis on curriculum design and the andragogy of teaching
generate work plans, course content, and learning objects for online and web-enhanced courses.
?Create training materials for online and web-enhanced courses and programs including computer-based training materials, classroom training materials, quick reference guides, tutorials, templates, and other job aids along with developing a standardized process for flexible course module design
Work with a variety of staff to assist instructors with launching and managing courses.
Research and work with online learning team members to develop technology and process solutions that support development and delivery of online and web-enhanced courses.
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the departments and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
Salary Range:
$38.55 to $57.35 per hour depending upon qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications:
The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:
To meet these minimum qualifications, a Master's degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; a Bachelor's degree my substitute for one year of experience; and an Associates' degree may substitute for six months of experience.
4 years of work experience as an instructional designer working in e-learning platforms such as Desire2Learn Brightspace.
4 years of work experience with an eLearning authoring system such as Adobe Captivate and/or Articulate Storyline.
Knowledge of educational theory, administrative fundamentals and the psychology of teaching and learning for adult, nontraditional students sufficient to provide solutions to programmatic problems.
Experience managing projects to completion within budget and time constraints in a virtual team environment.
Experience leading stakeholders through coaching and educating on the need for quality course design.
Preferred Qualification:
Bachelor's degree or higher
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with instructors and other subject matter experts and lead projects without authority.
Demonstrated course-level instructional design and development skills (e.g. portfolio, online examples) including: needs analysis, applied adult learning principles, systematic instructional design processes, graphic design and visual support, evaluation, and impact assessment.
Experience applying the theory and practice of curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation processes at the program level.
Experience with quality assessment tools and other data to guide the development and revision of courses and programs.
Physical Requirements of the Job: This position requires occasionally transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or transporting light objects frequently. The position may require movement throughout building(s) to a significant degree.
Work Shift (Hours / Days of work):
Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with some evening and weekend hours required based upon need.
