The Counseling Center at Eugenio Maria de Hostos Community College provides ongoing personal counseling for registered Hostos students on an individual and group basis. Counseling is provided in a private, confidential, and supportive environment in which students may focus on issues and concerns which may be hindering successful academic achievement and personal development. The Counseling Center maintains a close collaborative relationship with instructional faculty and staff who are frequent sources of referral. The Counseling Center seeks applications for a Student Psychological Counselor, reporting directly to the Student Counseling Director.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited, to the following additional duties:
Provides consultation and referral for faculty, staff, and students.
Provides supervision and training to graduate students.
Collaborates with community mental health agencies and hospitals to facilitate community-based services for Hostos Community College affiliated clients and maintains the directory services.
Participates in college and division wide orientation and enrollment activities.
Essential duties require on-campus presence
A Doctoral degree in Psychology to include Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs
A Master's degree in an appropriate discipline for personal or psychological counseling and a New York State license as a mental health practitioner (social work, psychology, or mental health counseling).
In addition, six years' of related, postbaccaularate, professional experience are required for all candidates.

Provides student counseling services as a member of a team.
Provides psychological counseling to individuals and groups of students
Performs crisis intervention for emergency situations
Performs intake and assessment for personal counseling services
Consults with instructional and administrative staff regarding student mental health issues; may prepare and present outreach initiatives and workshops
Participates in recommending improvements that will impact the counseling center's effectiveness
Performs related duties as assigned.
