The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
The Associate Dean of Operations & Technology sets the vision and strategy for technology, space planning, and facilities operations in support of the Mailman School?s research, education, and administrative mission. This role serves as the School?s primary advocate and liaison for IT and facilities, representing the needs of faculty, staff, and students across the University and CUIMC. The Associate Dean ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, establishes and enforces School-specific standards, and partners with leadership to develop service offerings that meet evolving needs. The role oversees day-to-day operations across technology and facilities to ensure high-quality service delivery, leads multidisciplinary teams, manages operational budgets, and collaborates with central partners to maintain secure, efficient, and well-functioning systems and spaces.
Responsibilities
Strategic Oversight & Compliance (10%)
Provide strategic oversight and guidance related to technology resources, facilities operations, space planning, and capital projects; ensure alignment with School leadership vision and goals.
Work with faculty, staff, and CUIMC central teams (IT and Facilities) to ensure compliance with CUIMC policies and procedures.
Operations Management & Service Delivery (55%)
Monitor day-to-day operations to ensure School support is running smoothly; alert central and School leadership to any critical issues and coordinate effective, long-term solutions.
Liaise with departments, centers, and offices across the School to ensure their technology and facilities needs are met.
Supervise teams supporting critical School operations?research, teaching, and service?through optimal infrastructure (classrooms, labs, event spaces) and technology.
Lead in-house and freelance teams to identify, adopt, and develop software solutions that enhance productivity and reporting across facilities and administrative areas.
Budgeting & Financial Oversight (10%)
Set operating budgets for facilities and IT functions; oversee team spending and monitor CUIMC charges for accuracy.
Vendor & Partnership Management (20%)
Manage University service delivery partnerships to ensure the School?s needs are fully met in a cost-effective manner. Providers include:
Central CUIMC IT
CUIMC Facilities
CUIMC Capital Projects
CUIT
Systems Biology
Additional Responsibilities (5%)
Coordinate and direct other responsibilities as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Master?s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, with 8?10 years of related experience in a leadership role required.
Strong understanding of compliance regulations in medical and higher education environments.
Proven experience building and leading effective, multidisciplinary teams in customer service-oriented environments.
Knowledge of classroom and event technologies that enhance the student experience.
Demonstrated experience managing large-scale capital projects using industry best practices in technology and/or facilities.
Strong understanding of the product development lifecycle; Agile development experience strongly preferred.
Experience leveraging technology, including AI, to optimize administrative workflows is a plus.
In-depth knowledge of networking, file storage, high-performance computing (HPC), and cloud technologies.
Experience managing diverse teams of highly technical professionals.
Excellent management, organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and analytical skills.
