Min T/E Requirements: Five years experience in counseling, assessment within an educational setting, and college student services. Master’s in counseling, psychology, or a closely related field required; Doctorate preferred. Must have excellent supervisory, budgeting, communication, writing, planning, problem solving, technology, and organizational skills. Ability to seek innovative solutions to problems is expected. Must be student-oriented and have a commitment to working in a team-based, collaborative environment along with the ability to work with a culturally diverse student population. Applicant needs to have credentials as a National Certified Counselor and/or licensed as a NC Licensed Professional Counselor and/or NC Licensed Practicing Psychologist or credentials recognized as equivalent.

Primary Purpose of Organization Unit: To provide counseling services to students who may experience temporary or long term psychological or mental health related issues.
Primary Purpose of Position: The Director of Counseling and Psychological leads a team of professionals and paraprofessionals responsible for providing services related to all aspects of mental health for the students of UNC Pembroke. This position reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

The mission of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is to provide clinical mental health services of a primarily developmental and preventative nature to help students balance their lives. The primary responsibilities of the Director position are:
To act as administrative head of Counseling and Psychological Services
To research the literature about psycho-educational issues, develop, implement, and monitor programs to teach positive mental health, provide personal counseling and programming services in support of the educational goals of the University
To provide instructional leadership to the University's efforts to increase wellness across campus via prevention, intervention, and education (e.g., formal class instruction, group evaluation, annual revision, publication, and distribution of the Drug Policy to all segments of the University population
To pursue wellness and mental health grant opportunities that may be beneficial to the mission of Counseling and Psychological Services
To provide direct therapeutic/diagnostic counseling or instructional, group and individual services
Counsel students, individually or in groups, having social, emotional, academic, and/or substance abuse concerns
Provide instruction via seminars/workshops or staff development and time-limited, crisis intervention counseling for staff, faculty, and employees of the University
To serve as a member of the Student Health Services staff
To plan, implement, evaluate, and provide instruction or instructional leadership in psycho-educational programs (e.g., test-anxiety, stress management, communication skills, etc.) for students
To provide community service and promote the University goals in the region via presentations on topics related to the expertise and knowledge of this position
To serve on appropriate University committees
To provide instruction, direction, and performance appraisal for 7 full-time positions: six professional staff members and one office support position as well as all contract employees
To conduct research by collecting and analyzing cumulative data in support of the educational mission of the University
To conduct all activities and services within an annually allocated budget
To serve as the chief mental health officer for campus crises and threat assessment
To accomplish other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
This position is designated Mandatory Personnel: Employees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.
Management Preference: Degree from CACREP of APA accredited programs: experience at a diverse regional university; roles with increased supervisory responsibilities; holds supervisor clinical license
Lic or Certifications Required by Statute or Regulation: Licensed as a NC Licensed Professional Counselor, Clinical Mental Health Counselor, NC Licensed Practicing Psychologist, or credentials recognized as equivalent.
