About the Role
**This position is hybrid**
The Genetic Counselor will provide genetic counseling following established genetic counseling practice guidelines in a range of settings including adult genetics clinic, prenatal clinic, pediatric clinic, metabolic clinic, GenRISK program, and other settings as appropriate.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for analyzing the intake information and determining if appropriate appointments have been scheduled.
Demonstrates knowledge, competency skills and intervention techniques in GC clinical services.
Assesses recurrence risks and recommends medical or genetic testing based upon analysis of risk, benefit and cost.
Ensures accurate completion of counseling paperwork.
Interacts and communicates regularly with the medical geneticist(s).
Responsible for the communication of both normal and abnormal results and coordinating appropriate follow-up with medical geneticist.
May provide case management for complex genetic cases, including coordinating medical recommendations, testing, and ongoing counseling.
Provides crisis intervention and psychosocial counseling regarding genetic conditions; makes referrals for ongoing care and support.
Acts as consultant to referring physicians regarding highly specialized genetic information pertinent to the management of their patients.
Participates in regular staff meetings and provides coverage for colleagues as necessary.
Provides genetic counseling in accordance with applicable standards of professional care, e.g., compliance with GDB/AFP.
Program regulations compliance.
Attends continuous education courses, attends meetings, and reviews medical literature. Stays current in GC field.
Contributes to quality/development of clinical services, participates in specialty sections, and coordinates specific services or specific projects.
Actively participates in outreach, education, and training activities.
Requirements:
Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling.
American Board of Genetic Counseling Certification / American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics Certification (ABGC/ABMG certification).
California Department of Public Health Genetic Counselor License.
Minimum of two (2) years' experience in genetic counseling and competent in all genetic counselor core functions.
