Job Overview
The Assistant Director for MBA Programs assists in the effective delivery of an exceptional MBA experience for approximately 950+ Full-time and Flex MBA students, including activities and responsibilities relating to both the academic and co-curricular components of the MBA program.
They serve as an academic advisor for multiple cohorts of students in each class of either the Full-time or Flex MBA Programs, overall 140-210 students, depending on which program and cohort they current advise advising, and including regular communication with students regarding curriculum planning, degree progress, and academic difficulties (if any).
As needed, they serve as general liaison with other university offices (e.g., University Registrar, Academic Resource Center, Counseling and Psychiatric Service, Office of Global Services) to support students with any other academic or personal issues.
Further, they have primary oversight of coordinating and communication of the registration process, and of hiring of tutors for academic support, community service initiatives, and dual degree advising.
Work Interactions
Senior leadership relies on all Assistant Directors to implement and execute various strategies, processes and programming. Each is team member of nine student service/program office professionals who together oversee and promote excellence in all aspects of the MBA student experience.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to management of both the academic experience (e.g., curriculum planning, registration, graduation audit) and the co-curricular experience ( e.g., student government and clubs, celebratory events, commencement). As assigned, Assistant Directors take primary responsibility for a particular set of activities in order to become expert in the details, with the overall goal of a cross-functional team within which any one member can support the specialized responsibilities of any other member.
As well, they manage projects that affect students' MSB experiences and will take leadership roles in program initiatives, including orientation, graduation, academic registration, and academic planning.
These responsibilities require interactions with MBA student, business executives, alumni, university administrators/officials and professors, vendors and external parties.
Assistant Directors in the MBA Program Office think critically, work independently, and demonstrate not only mastery of policies and procedures, but also the ability to assess and adjust to the needs of individual students.
This Assistant Director opportunity reports to the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs of the MBA Program Office.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree - preference for Master's degree
2 to 3 years in a student services and/or higher education environment [which may be substituted with experience in a comparable MBA program]
Self-starter, multitasker, and extremely organized with attention to detail
Ability to work in a high pressured environment with tight deadlines
Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office with some knowledge of database software
Availability and willingness to work weekends as required
