Campus Recreational Sports is a department within the Division of Student Affairs. The Division of Student Affairs is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure every student's IU experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. The Division of Student Affairs staff and 21 departments aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful in school and after graduation. Campus Recreational Sports' mission is to connect, inform, and inspire people to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. We serve over 36,000 students, faculty, staff, and public participants annually. Our programs utilize two multi-purpose facilities (housing over 400,000 square feet of activity space), three indoor pools, an outdoor pool complex, an indoor tennis center and numerous outdoor activity spaces. Our team consists of forty-six appointed staff members, and over 1,000 part-time student staff members. Job Summary
Indiana University Campus Recreational Sports is seeking an Associate Director of Operations. This new position reports to the Executive Director of Campus Recreational Sports and serves as a member of the senior departmental leadership team. This role is central in supporting health and well-being outcomes for a changing and diverse student population.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Provides strategic direction and leadership in support of programming designed to create positive health and well-being outcomes for the Indiana University - Bloomington community.
Provides direct oversight for functions including facility support, facility operations, facility scheduling, risk management, information technology, and aspects of self-directed recreation.
General Responsibilities
Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define recreational programming methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority program operations/projects/initiatives.
Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing program timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase program initiatives.
Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
Manages high level assignments and allocation of resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale programs with a wide audiences in support of recreational initiatives.
Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry program standards, subject matter experts, best practices, and strategic marketing; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
Works collaboratively with other unit leaders, volunteers, students and/or faculty experts across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as an advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to program development, educational initiatives and institutional priorities.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field
Preferred
Master's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
4 years of related experience with structured recreational programming and operations
1 year of management experience
Preferred
8 years of full-time experience that demonstrates progressive levels of responsibility for recreational sports operations, human resources, event management; project management supervision of professional and support staff employees, fiscal management, risk management, and facility management
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
CPR/AED within 180 days from date of hire
Standard First Aid within 180 days from date of hire
Preventing Disease Transmission/Universal Precautions within 180 days from date of hire

Working Conditions / Demands
This position requires both sedentary work and long durations of movement about the workspace. It requires the ability to move and transport objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential tasks with or without an accommodation.
Advertised Salary
$105,000 - $115,000 a year
