Collegiate School seeks a committed, forward-thinking, and experienced Dean of Students with a passion for working with Middle School students, faculty, and families. In addition, the Dean of Students will work closely with the administrative team to enhance the positive Middle School experience for students in Grades 5-8.
This is a full-time, benefitted 10-month position that reports directly to the Head of Middle School.
General responsibilities will include:
Build and maintain a strong, healthy, positive community.
Manage all aspects of student discipline, ranging from daily behavioral redirections to large-scale infractions.
Maintain a highly visible presence throughout the school day and at large out-of-school events while working closely with students, families, teachers, and administrators, both proactively and reactively.
Regularly work with the student body during assemblies and class meetings to reinforce community standards, behavioral expectations, and safety protocols.
Enforce policies to uphold the School’s five core values.
Work closely with teachers to support classroom management strategies.
Serve as liaison between the Middle School and after school activities such as Middle Quest and Athletics.
Coordinate carpool, lunch, recess, study halls, and lost and found.
Undertake other projects as assigned by the Head of the Middle School.
Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications and competencies:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree is preferred.
Demonstrated leadership experience in a Middle School setting.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with middle school-aged students (grades 5-8) in an educational setting.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to navigate difficult conversations.
Competency using different databases and software to manage schedules and information.
Enthusiasm for professional growth.
Maintains accurate records and confidentiality at all times.
Commitment to broad participation in school life.
Experience in and commitment to the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community.
Demonstrated interest in working with students and in valuing diversity.
Builds strong relationships with students, colleagues and parents by creating a caring and inclusive community in which all members are respected and valued.
Understands the role of social, emotional and physical well being in the teaching and learning process and encourages the development of lifelong healthy behavior patterns.
Ability to navigate the campus actively (walking hallways, monitoring lunch/carpool) for extended period.
