Associate Career Counselor (Part-time) Pool 2025 - 2026
MiraCosta Community College
Application
Details
Posted: 09-Dec-25
Location: Oceanside, California
Internal Number: b40791fe06ef54195cf7161cb0831a42
The college is accepting applications to build a pool of career counselors for possible future part-time assignments at all locations. The department chairperson or designee will review applications as vacancies become available.
MiraCosta?s Career Counselors provide additional support to the college?s disproportionately impacted students, which is in line with our commitment to diversity and inclusion. Data from the college?s Office of Research, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness demonstrate that first-time college students who are Latinx, African American/Black, and over 25 can benefit from outreach, interventions, and a holistic team approach.
The associate career counselor will play a key role in planning and coordinating support services, events, speakers, etc., that actively promote student career exploration. This will be done in alignment with the San Diego and Imperial Valley Region?s Integrated Career Planning and Education Planning brief. The associate career counselor will also provide career counseling to all students, including assessment, major exploration, occupational exploration, and career clarity, and may be assigned to teach career and life planning classes.
The associate career counselor will be an integral part of the Career Center team, located within the Instructional Services Division under the Associate Career Education Dean. You will receive guidance and support from the career and life planning discipline specialist and chair of the career studies department, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Career Counselors may be assigned to any campus or authorized facility. Assignments may include days, evenings, or weekends.
Applications are valid through June 30, 2026, at which time they will expire. A new posting for this pool will be posted on July 1, 2026, and those still interested will need to reapply at that time.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:
MiraCosta College Board Policy 7800: Employee Residency requires all associate faculty employees to maintain and permanently reside in a principal place of residence in the state of California that is within two-hundred (200) road miles from the employee?s regularly assigned district worksite. The purpose of the policy is to promote efficiency and continuity throughout all campus administrative functions, provide students with high quality assistance and accessibility to all academic and campus services, ensure that students receive an engaging education, and respond to emerging student needs.
Associate faculty who have a fully online assignment with the District must reside within the state of California, but may live beyond two-hundred (200) road miles from their designated District worksite without requiring the exception detailed below.
The District may consider an individual request to temporarily reside outside of the State of California or outside the 200-mile limit on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed twelve consecutive months.
Under direction, provide career assessment, exploration, and counseling services to students who have a wide variety of backgrounds and needs, particularly students who are disproportionately impacted and participating in ACP Success Teams; and perform related duties as assigned.
Principal responsibilities of the associate career counselor for ACP Success Teams include providing career assessment, exploration, and counseling to students and exploring how CRLP classes could best meet the needs of ACP students; serving in a leadership capacity as a career counselor and representative of the career and life planning discipline to ACP Success Teams; collaborating with ACP leads, instructional and counseling faculty, and librarians to incorporate career exploration activities throughout the curriculum; assisting with coordinating career exploration events, such as the district?s MajorFest, and assisting with Career Center events, such as panel presentations and the Job & Internship Fair; representing the career and life planning discipline and the Career Center at district and regional meetings and events, as appropriate.
