Academic Advisor for Transfer Students & Peer Academic Support Specialist Brandeis University â“ Academic Services | Waltham, MA | Full-Time
About the Role: Brandeis University is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Academic Advisor for Transfer Students & Peer Academic Support Specialist to join our Academic Services team. This role provides a unique opportunity to support the success, engagement, and persistence of transfer students while contributing to the development and growth of our peer academic support programs. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative higher education professional passionate about guiding students through their academic journey and fostering inclusive learning communities.
The hiring range for this position is $66,900-$70,100
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Advising for Transfer Students (50%)
Serve as the primary advisor for undergraduate transfer students, providing guidance on academic planning, major/minor selection, course registration, and university policies.
Support students in navigating transfer credit evaluations, building academic and social connections, and achieving their personal, academic, and professional goals.
Collaborate across campus with faculty, Student Financial Services, the Registrarâ™s Office, the Hiatt Career Center, Student Life, and other partners to ensure holistic support.
Maintain accurate advising records and prepare student cases for the Committee on Academic Standing when needed.
Peer Academic Support (25%)
Contribute to the hiring, training, and development of student leaders, including Roosevelt Fellows and BUGS tutors.
Support initiatives in tutoring, academic mentoring, study skills development, and time and task management coaching.
Promote peer-led academic programs and foster a culture of collaboration and student success.
Student Success Initiatives (20%)
Partner with the Director of Student Success and Retention to support retention-focused programming and initiatives.
Coordinate outreach and programming for students returning from leaves of absence and build community engagement opportunities.
Other Duties (5%)
Support the broader mission of Academic Services, contributing to initiatives and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Masterâ™s Degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a related field preferred.
3â“5 years of experience in higher education, ideally in an advising role focused on academic success and student retention.
Experience with peer educator programs, tutoring initiatives, or academic mentoring preferred.
Knowledge of student development theory, learning theory, and models of peer leadership.
Strong interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations.
