The College of Fine and Applied Arts is now accepting applications for an Academic Advisor in the School of Architecture. The Academic Advisor will advise undergraduate students about program requirements and opportunities, course selection, and post-graduation career planning. In addition, the Academic Advisor will work with School, campus, and college administration, maintain undergraduate student records, address student petitions, and perform other duties relevant to the role.
Duties & Responsibilities
Advising
Advise undergraduate students on ISoA and University curricular requirements and degree requirements? communicate support resources to students. • Inspire, motivate, and mentor students through a holistic, developmental advising approach. • Monitor student progress towards degree completion? be responsible for thorough record keeping of all student contacts. • Provide support, resources, and referrals for students on academic probation. • Advise students on course registration and selection. • Advise incoming freshman and transfer students during summer orientation. • Work with the Student Services team to offer excellent customer service to ISoA students.
Programming
Lead programming efforts for freshmen and sophomores regarding time management, study skills, mental health, etc. • Serve as a team member for all other ISoA activities, including but not limited to, Discover Architecture, Earl Prize and Graduate Excellence award coordination, convocation, • Annual Architecture Awards (A3), Reviews, and the NOMAS Symposium.
Recruitment and Outreach
Serve as a member of the ISoA recruitment team by coordinating on-campus transfer info sessions for students, attending Orange and Blue Days, and conducting tours for prospective students and their families. • Serve as a back-up for the Associate Director of Student Services for out-of-state recruitment events. • Coordinate the annual ACE Mentoring recruitment visit. • Assist with supervision of Architecture Ambassadors.
Administrative
Collaborate with Student Services staff on newsletters for undergraduate students. • Other relevant duties as assigned to further the mission of ISoA.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, preferably in higher education, architecture, or related field. • Three years of experience in programs of assistance to students in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in related field. • University of Illinois advising experience • Experience using Banner and DARS (or similar) student record systems
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to respond to concerns, motivations, and learning patterns of undergraduate students. • Ability and commitment to working with culturally diverse groups. • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills. • Knowledge of Illinois School of Architecture
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. The previously determined salary range for this position is $50,000 to $60,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.
