The Admissions Office at Whittier College is seeking an Admission Counselor.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Admission, the Admission Counselor plays a key role in supporting the recruitment and enrollment goals of Whittier College. As a member of a dynamic and student-centered team, this position is responsible for engaging with prospective students and families, managing recruitment territories, and representing the College at high schools, college fairs, and community events. This position involves local and national travel, personalized outreach, and collaboration with campus partners to promote Whittier’s distinctive academic programs, inclusive community, and commitment to student success.
This is a full-time, on-campus position. This position requires significant travel, both locally and nationally, particularly during the fall and spring recruitment seasons. Evening and weekend work is also expected to support recruitment. Flexibility and a willingness to travel and work non-traditional hours are essential.

Position Duties & Responsibilities
Essential Functions of the job
Represent Whittier College at high school visits, college fairs, community-based organizations, and virtual events to connect with prospective students and families.
Manage an assigned recruitment territory, including travel, application reading, and territory-specific outreach strategies
Build and maintain relationships with high school counselors, community-based organizations, and other key partners.
Communicate with prospective students and families through phone, email, text, virtual meetings, and in-person interactions.
Support the planning and execution of on-campus and virtual admission events, such as preview days and open houses.
Participate in the holistic review and evaluation of first-year applications.
Collaborate with faculty and staff across campus to facilitate a personalized admission experience.
Contribute to one or more strategic initiatives, such as diversity recruitment, communications, counselor engagement, or campus visit programming.
Travel regionally and/or nationally for several weeks during peak recruitment seasons (typically four weeks in the fall and one to two weeks in the spring/summer).
Take on additional projects or responsibilities as assigned to support the overall goals and operations of the Admission Office.
Maintain awareness of higher education trends and college policies.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Position Specifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required.
Must be comfortable using and/or willing to learn technology, databases, and CRM systems (experience with Slate is a plus).
Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, public speaking, and networking skills are essential.
Effective soft skills such as resourcefulness, proactiveness, tenacity, and persistence are essential to the position.
Requires the ability to work with and respond to the needs of multiple constituencies, including prospective students and families, faculty, staff, and student staff.
Must possess sound judgement, professionalism, and discretion in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

A valid driver’s license that meets Real ID, or other acceptable document, that meets requirements for air travel and reliable transportation for work-related travel purposes.
