Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Senior Athletic Academic Advisor will advise student-athletes, coordinate academic support, assess NCAA eligibility, lead programs within the Matador Achievement Center, and collaborate extensively with coaches and academic staff, enhancing student-athletes' academic journeys toward successful graduation.
Advise multiple teams, both incoming and continuing student-athletes, on course selection, graduation planning, referrals to campus resources, knowledge of campus policies, academic progress checking, etc.
Provide individual Academic Specialist meetings, referrals to MAC & campus resources, run weekly appointment reports, and communicate frequently with Coaches, student-athlete follow-up, and check-ins.
Monitoring and reviewing NCAA academic eligibility for assigned teams: Continuing eligibility evaluations, recruiting meetings, eligibility/APR projections, working knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility rules, transfer evaluations, etc.
Coordinate a program within the Matador Achievement Center.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, coaches, and athletic administration.
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field. Upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution, where such are job-related, is preferred.
Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
A Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Experience working with intercollegiate student-athletes is preferred; knowledge of Division 1 NCAA Rules and Regulations and knowledge of athletic academic advising best practices is desired.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
In-depth knowledge of NCAA Division I academic eligibility rules and regulations.
Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in academic advising, particularly for student-athletes.
Ability to coordinate and manage academic support programs.
Flexibility to occasionally work evenings, weekends, and travel with athletic teams.

The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $5540 - $5650 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5540 - $7893 per month.
HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel. On occasion, this position will conduct, attend, or participate in meetings, conferences, and provide support that takes place outdoors and off campus that includes out-of-state travel.
This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
