Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, an independent school for girls in grades 5-12, welcomes students, adults and families into an inclusive global learning environment which respects and strives for diversity, openness, understanding and acceptance of all human beings.
THE ROLE:
Forest Ridge school counselors provide counseling services to students in grades 5 through 12 in addition to consultation and education to both parents and Forest Ridge colleagues on matters of mental health, student support, and crisis response. Additionally, this role supports and participates in the promotion of student wellness in all areas of school programming. Please note: This is a part-time (2 or 3 days per week), long-term sub counselor position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Provides individual counseling to students
Consults and collaborates with colleagues about student care and broader mental health issues
Provides parent support and consultation regarding student mental health
Develops and delivers SEL and mental health programming to students, parents, and colleagues
Provides crisis counseling and intervention on urgent mental health issues
Collaborates with external mental health providers in the support of Forest Ridge students
Participates in professional consultation about student wellbeing through weekly Student Support Team Meetings
Provides school-wide leadership of suicide prevention efforts and mental health risks
Collaborates with external colleagues and constituents on mental health best practices
Performs other duties as assigned
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in counseling, school counseling, psychology, clinical psychology or a similar field required
Professional license required:
WA Dept of Health: Mental Health Counselors, Marriage & Family Therapists, Professional Certified Counselors, or
Certification issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction: School Counselors (aka Educational Staff Associates)
3+ years of experience counseling students and working with their families strongly preferred
3+ years of experience working in an educational setting preferred
Experience working in an independent school preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge and training on mental health theory, application, and technique are used in performing the duties of this role
Ability to maintain confidential information
Knowledge of best practices for the professional and legal responsibilities of a counselor in a school setting
Ability to regard challenging situations and behavior with patience and positive regard
Ability to provide effective counseling and developmental support to students in grades 5-12
Proficient written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency at program development and delivery
Ability to collaborate with a broad and diverse school community
Ability to provide professional, supportive, and attentive communication and relationship development with parents
Maintenance of a professional relationship with all community members
Knowledge of adolescent development
General digital literacy and the ability to master common automated systems, and confidently learn new technology
Ability to work independently and in an organized manner
Flexibility, maturity, and a good sense of humor
SALARY/BENEFITS: Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart is committed to attracting and retaining outstanding employees through competitive compensation. Salary range(s) based on education and experience. Daily Rate: $299.52 - $559.76
