• | Serves as the principal advisor and assistant to the Deputy Superintendent in the areas of, student health and wellness, career and technical education, college career and student services, nontraditional education and intervention, and student discipline hearings | |
• | Provides leadership, consultation, and direction regarding student health and wellness, career and technical education, college career and student services, nontraditional education and intervention, and student discipline hearings delivered to all students. | |
• | Attends all School Board meetings and work sessions | |
• | Makes presentations in assigned areas and is responsible for keeping the School Board informed of instructional and support activities | |
• | Communicates the student services, nontraditional, and disciplinary activities of the School Division to community groups and organizations as appropriate | |
• | Complies with local, state, and federal laws, with respect to the operations of the schools and the provision of services, as well as all applicable educational standards and, regulations, and guidelines; these range from state laws mandating the quality of education and accreditation standards for schools to federal regulations governing special programs and services | |
• | Works closely with the Deputy Superintendent, Superintendent, Executive Cabinet members and School Board to implement policies and programs with Prince William County Public Schools | |
• | Oversees selection, assignment, training, performance, retention, transfer, promotion, demotion, reprimand, and evaluation of all staff within the Department of Student Services | |
• | Determines educational program needs and monitors the development of plans for effectively addressing those needs | |
• | Prepares and administers the budget for the Department of Student Services and Post-Secondary Success | |
• | Oversees and is responsible for the budgets for all areas of student support | |
• | Represents PWCS on department-specific matters at the national, state, regional, and local levels | |
• | Liaises with local, state, and federal agencies on matters related to the offices of Student Services and Post-Secondary Success | |
• | Prepares recommendations and reports related to the offices of Student Services and Post-Secondary Success | |
• | Provides effective services by the Department of Student Services and Post-Secondary Success to individual schools to assist in meeting instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional needs | |
• | Maintains continuing communications with parents, parent groups, civic organizations, and related groups to achieve understanding of and support for Division programs, goals, and policies and provides delivery of essential feedback to the Deputy Superintendent from those community groups | |
• | Supervises the development of curriculum, programs, and professional development in the areas of nontraditional education and interventions, student discipline hearings, career and technical education, school counseling services, school health services, school social work services, school age childcare, and student assistance and prevention services | |
• | Oversees the supervision of Adult Education, Sixteen/Seventeen-Year-Old GED Program or the Individualized Student Alternative Education Program (ISAEP), National External Diploma Program, Night School, Computer-Based Instruction, and Student Hearings | |
• | Coordinates services and monitors regulations and procedures that pertain to student enrollment, transfers, tuition, home instruction by parents, religious exemptions, homebound/home-based instruction, and foreign exchange students | |
• | Provides leadership and coordination of the Code of Behavior revision process | |
• | Provides appropriate and effective leadership, advice, and assistance to department personnel, school administrators, central office staff, Deputy Superintendent, Superintendent, and the Superintendent’s Staff regarding the management of student discipline | |
• | Develops and implements continuous improvement plans for all department within the Office of Student Services and Post-Secondary Success | |
• | Recommends the discipline and/or separation of staff to the Deputy Superintendent, Chief Human Resource Officer, and Superintendent | |
• | Recommends revisions to Board policies and operating procedures when appropriate |
