Laurel School seeks talented faculty and staff who will put our students first and strive to make a difference in their lives. We seek to attract faculty and staff who thrive on being engaged participants in our community and are committed to developing young women as authentic learners and leaders. The most successful candidates are solutions-driven, are willing to listen to learn, embrace iteration and practice as a necessary part of the product, see opportunities before problems, and thrive in a fast-paced, forward-thinking educational environment. Laurel lives our mission: to inspire each girl to fulfill her promise and to better the world.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate individual, one who cares deeply about the importance of research, reading and writing and who is interested in exploring how we can teach girls to be courageous, ethical and empathetic through historical and literary study. The candidate must be able to use various assessment strategies; willing to teach two sections of College Prep US History and two sections of AP US History in the Upper School and incorporate our Facing History and Ourselves program into course planning. We seek teachers interested in working collaboratively with other Laurel teachers, enthusiastic about the opportunity to design curriculum—including lessons that take advantage of our 140-acre Butler campus as an outdoor classroom—and adept at differentiating instruction. Flexibility, a sense of humor, and a deep desire to be an educator outside of the classroom—working with students in many capacities—are invaluable qualities at Laurel School.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Preparation and implementation of daily lessons
Delivery of assignments and timely evaluation of all relevant class work and student progress
Design and implementation of appropriate, authentic assessments and support of individual student learning styles
Timely and proactive communication with parents about student progress
Serving as an Advisor to a small group of students
Collaboration with other members of the faculty, administration, and staff on experiential, interdisciplinary and community-based opportunities that add to the school community
Active participation in all faculty and staff meetings
Effective and timely communication with varied school constituencies in person, through email and through voicemail
Support of divisional and school-wide initiatives through committee work, where appropriate
Ability to teach in the Middle School and Upper School divisions
Other duties as assigned
The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and a minimum of three to five years teaching experience at the middle and/or high school level is preferred. The successful candidate will also possess a positive attitude, excellent written and verbal skills, strong organizational skills, and proven success within a work setting that requires collaboration, cooperation, and collegiality. The candidate must possess or acquire and maintain a State of Ohio-issued teaching certificate. The ability to lead one or more co-curricular activities, or to coach a sport, is desirable. The school welcomes the opportunity to continue to find ways to diversify our faculty.
