The Fessenden School is an all-boys independent day and boarding school serving 540 students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 9 in West Newton, MA. The Fessenden School’s ?Upper School seeks an English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher who will work collaboratively with the English Language Department Chair and Head of Upper School. The ELL Lead Teacher will be responsible for teaching students with intermediate proficiency in English for Grades 5-9 with the goal of preparing and transitioning them to their next stage of language development. The instructor will partner with colleagues and the ELL Department Chair in developing, coordinating, and implementing the curriculum while maintaining effective instruction and English proficiency assessment of all ELL students.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Teach 4 small classes of 8-10 students. The classes include English, history and language
Teach small group ELL tutorials
Create and plan lessons that connect to grade level curriculum and sequential units that have been developed in collaboration with the ELL Department Chair and colleagues
Incorporate project based learning, educational technology, universal design, and a multicultural approach to teaching and learning with the assistance of school supports such as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Director of Teaching and Learning, Innovation Coaches, and Department Chairs
Use of a variety of assessments to consistently monitor student progress which include but are not limited to Duolingo English Test, and WIDA testing
Collaborate with the Head of Upper School and Dean of Middle School to facilitate character education and service-learning programs
Participate in an Upper School grade level team
Assist Admissions with administering and scoring assessments (TOFEL Jr and WIDA), determining the skill level of candidates, and placing new students in their core classes.
Exemplify the School’s mission and community principles, including honesty, respect and compassion.
Participate in and help facilitate all division and grade level activities and meetings.
Coach a sport and/or supervise sports study hall as assigned.
Collaborate with colleagues within grade level, division, department and student support services, including the Learning Resources Department.
Perform duties such as recess, lunch; being advisor, grade trips, possible overnight trip, and school events
Maintain all documentation connected to the curriculum and students which includes writing personalized comments for advisees and regular parent communication
Attend faculty meetings; typically on Mondays from 4:30 pm to 5:45 pm.
Attend professional development meetings; three 8:30 am to 4:00 pm and three 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance
Maintain current CPR/AED and first aid certification and child abuse prevention training which are provided by the school
