Job Description
Basic Function:BASIC FUNCTION:

The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for lecture and lab instruction in various electrical theories, residential, commercial, and industrial wiring standards, electrical safety, wiring methods, conduit bending, troubleshooting, calculations, and other materials in the General Electrician curriculum. Additional topics may include an introduction to electric motor installation and programmable logic controllers (PLCs), provided the applicant possesses the appropriate knowledge and background in these subjects. The assignment may include courses in electrician automation electronics, electrician training in electrical code, and other relevant topics in the discipline. Accelerated training courses and participation in grant implementation may also be part of the assignment.

The candidate must develop a professional rapport with diverse educational, community, and industry partners. Participation in and completion of course and program-level assessments is also required. A C-10 Electrical Contractor license is not mandatory, but the preferred candidate will hold a C-10 Electrical Contractor License in good standing with the Contractor State License Board.
Education:EDUCATION:
Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional experience; OR any associate degree and six years of full time OR equivalent part-time professional experience.

Completion of a certificate program or associate degree program in electronics technology or higher, telecommunications, or related field at an accredited college or trade school or successful completion of a U.S. military electronics technical course desired.

(All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions.)
Experience:EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of two years of successful community college or baccalaureate level teaching is desired. The ideal candidate will exhibit teaching competence in more than one area of specialization in the field. Candidates with competence in career and technical education, and workforce training, are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes is highly desired.

Experience in any of the following: design, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, configuration, modification, fabrication, programming of wide variety of electronic equipment, sensors, PLC's, 4 to 20mA current loops, transmitters/receivers, data networks/communications protocol, radio communications, telephony, SCADA, multiplexing, automation, robotics, instrumentation, P&ID's.


Skills and Abilities:
The candidate should display positive and effective interpersonal skills when interacting with both students and staff.

Ability to develop course work in the electronics field to prepare students for electronics certification.
Licenses/Certifications:LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification in electronics desirable.

Electronics, particularly as it relates to the relevance of electronics to students' lives, interests, and communities; demonstrated knowledge of the implications of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices. Willingness to develop new course curriculum.

Must demonstrate evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (E.C. 87360a).
Duties and Responsibilities:DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. The instructional assignment will include lecture and laboratory classes in electronics and related disciplines, the incorporation of industry certifications into the curriculum, and will provide students with interactive simulations. Some meetings or instruction may occur off-site.

2. Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, including but not limited to conducting classes, class preparation, student/faculty evaluations, office hours, committee work, student learning outcomes assessment, program review, student activities, maintaining industry expertise, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.

3. Provides leadership in program development, developing regional college/industry/governmental agency partnerships, and developing/modifying curriculum in response to industry and community need.

4. Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.

5. Collaborate and assist with outreach to community and underserved student populations.

6. Participation in discipline/department decision making processes and work regarding curriculum, program development, scheduling and other matters are also expected of all department faculty.

7. Responsibilities also include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.

Conditions of Employment:CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Ten-month, tenure-track position.
2. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
3. Medical and dental benefits are provided for the employee and legal dependents.
4. A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided for the employee.
5. Orientation to college is required as is adherence to Improvement of Instruction policy.
6. Maintaining broad knowledge of the academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes is expected.

Responsible for all other conditions of employment required of full-time faculty members such as a willingness to be involved in District and College promotional activities, active participation in college committee work, student activities and other support services, and appropriate professional activities.
