Founded in 1959 and named for the Trinity River that flows nearby, Trinity Valley School is an independent, nonsectarian, college-preparatory school which seeks students of above-average to superior ability who will contribute to the diversity of the student body and enrich the School community. Position Description
Trinity Valley School seeks a full-time English teacher to join the Upper School faculty beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.
The English Department at Trinity Valley School
The English department at Trinity Valley School seeks applicants who bring a passion for teaching English; eagerness to build meaningful, caring relationships with adolescents; and enthusiasm for professional collaboration, learning, and growth.
The department is a team of creative instructional designers who utilize a range of pedagogical techniques designed to further develop students as intelligent citizens who think critically and analytically through the study of language and literature.
The department welcomes candidates who are capable and comfortable teaching English courses across the Upper School curriculum. Preference is given to candidates with experience teaching AP Literature and Composition and AP Language and Composition.
Trinity Valley School appreciates that teaching excellence comes in many forms. Above all, the school seeks candidates who love working with young people and place students at the heart of their instructional practice. TVS welcomes candidates who are both comfortable serving as advisors to groups of 10-12 Upper School students and willing to engage in campus life through coaching, volunteering with Trojan Outdoor Experience (TOE), leading students on Trojans Abroad Programs, and/or sponsoring co-curricular clubs and programs.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skill Requirements
The ideal candidate:
Holds a master's degree in English or related field (master’s preferred; not required).
Has experience teaching high school English, ideally in independent schools.
Has the flexibility to teach across the TVS English curriculum (9-12). Experience teaching Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition is a plus.
Has experience and interest in designing approaches to teaching and learning that foster student engagement and stimulate intellectual curiosity.
Creates and promotes inclusive learning spaces in which all students feel honored, appreciated, and respected for who they are.
Nurtures a deep feeling of community through actions and attitudes.
Balances caring and flexibility while holding students to high expectations.
Welcomes the role of teacher-scholar by seeking professional learning and growth.
Exemplifies personal and professional integrity.
