Upward Bound provides opportunities for students to succeed in their precollege performance and pursuit of higher education. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families and/or students who will be the first in their family to go to college. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
Your Role on the Team
As an experienced professional in K-14 academic preparation, the Upward Bound Program Specialist independently works with assigned institutions and organizations to design, plan and implement the Upward Bound program. The primary responsibilities are: student advising to assess academic progress; developing personalized educational plans for students; mentoring participants on a variety of college access topics including, but not limited to, Matriculation, Financial Literacy and Student Wellness/Summer Melt; assists with managing a variety of programmatic events including monthly Saturday Sessions, and participates in residential (overnight) summer session at UCI and college campus visits. Develops and maintains program visibility in schools including participant recruitment and retention. Assists with planning and facilitating monthly (bilingual) parent engagement/meetings and tutor programming for those participants who need assistance with HS subjects. Assists with maintaining collaborative relationships with K-14 and higher education institutions and / or community entities as well as with other college-going programs.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$58,656- $$65,652 (Annual).
Required:
Bilingual Spanish/English language skills.
Knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts.
Strong communications (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
Strong knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population.
Strong knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.
Significant experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.
Knowledge of youth and adolescent development theory, including issues facing low-income, first generation urban youth.
Preferred:
Strong knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues. Ability to assess their impact on program strategies.
Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
