The Department of Teaching and Learning Sciences in the College of Education at Texas Christian University (TCU) invites applications for appointment as a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Bilingual Education to begin in August 2025. The successful candidate will teach and advise students in the graduate and undergraduate levels in the bilingual, TESOL, and special education programs. The department currently offers preparation and opportunities for certification in Bilingual Education, TESOL, and Special Education—all areas are directly impacted by national teacher shortages and involved with creating the new Bilingual Special Education certification in Texas.
The successful candidate for this position will have strong potential for or a demonstrated track record of research excellence focused broadly on bilingual education (e.g., bi-literacy, dual language education, language & identity development of active bilingual learners/users of English/users of English [ABLE] students, etc.). We are especially interested in scholars pursuing research in the following areas: bilingual special education; intersectionality of disability, race, and bilingualism. The successful candidate will have potential for or a record of securing external grants to support their research program at the level necessary to ensure the impact of their work. Successful candidates will also be invited to join the Alice Neeley Special Education Research & Service (ANSERS) Institute’s core faculty.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include teaching, research/scholarship, advising, professional development, and service commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will:
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to TESOL/bilingual education within the department’s teacher certification programs
• Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, including serving on oral/comprehensive examination and dissertation committees within the department
• Maintain a robust line of research and publication
• Have the potential for or a record of securing external grants to support their program of research
• Collaborate with department faculty on student recruitment, assessment, and retention, program evaluation, and issues related to field-based teacher preparation
• Continue the work of college and campus-level programs that seek to recruit, prepare, and sustain a more community-represented work force (e.g., BESO, Maestro)
• Provide service to the department, college, university, and program-related professional organizations
Required Qualifications:
• An earned doctorate, or expected completion by August 2025, in a field related to bilingual education
• Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish
• Academic record of excellence in research and teaching at a level appropriate to rank
• Strong written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in PK-12 classrooms
• Commitment to field-based teacher preparation
• Experience teaching emergent/ABLE/bilingual students
• Experience or research related to bilingual special education
• College or university teaching experience
