The Speyer Legacy School seeks a dynamic, innovative, and passionate full-time Middle School Humanities teacher. The candidate hired will join four other Middle School humanities teachers and will report to the Head of Middle School. They will be responsible for collaborating with faculty and staff to teach in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. The ideal candidate possesses a love of Middle School students, creative problem-solving skills, a sense of humor, enthusiasm for designing innovative curriculum, a positive attitude toward change, and strong interpersonal skills that allow one to cooperate and collaborate effectively with others.
Duties & Responsibilities
Plan and implement motivating lessons in Humanities for Sixth and Seventh Grades which reflects knowledge of an interdisciplinary curriculum of English Language Arts and Social Studies, supports students’ development in writing, students’ interests and abilities, students’ social and emotional needs, and gifted education.
Demonstrate a clear joy and excitement for working with Middle School students, reflecting compassion, understanding, and care for the developmental needs of this age group.
Establish and implement rules for behavior and classroom procedures and routines.
Evaluate students' performance, including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional.
Prepare student reports which include narrative descriptions of students' achievements and needs.
Communicate regularly with families about classroom happenings and student progress.
Demonstrate a passion for lifelong learning on a daily basis for both students and colleagues.
Actively pursue professional development rooted in individual and schoolwide goals.
Demonstrate a desire to meaningfully integrate technology into the classroom.
Collaborate with colleagues, across and within disciplines and divisions, to further develop curriculum and design interdisciplinary projects/units of study.
Serve as a Middle School Advisor, supporting the social and emotional development of our Middle School students.
Teach an elective course within the Middle School program.
Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, school duties, field trips, and some evening events.
Promote respect for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as a core value of the School, a shared responsibility in partnership with the school community.
Engage respectfully with families and demonstrate sensitivity to cultures, values, configurations, and beliefs.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of child development, best practices, and current trends in Humanities education and gifted education.
Demonstrated classroom management skills, including allocating time, space, and materials for most effective learning.
Experience in differentiated instruction.
Creativity and innovation in both curriculum and instruction; ability to incorporate 21st century skills.
Versatility and flexibility both within and outside of the classroom, encouraging students to think creatively, work collaboratively, embrace failure, and communicate effectively with others.
Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Skill in creating a learning environment that is challenging, motivating, and developmentally appropriate.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, English, History, or a related subject area required.
Masters Degree and/or experience in gifted education preferred.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Salary Range
The annual salary range for this full-time position is $75,000-110,000. The position on the scale will be based on years of experience and education.
