Punahou School is actively recruiting a Full Time Regular Technical Director whose responsibilities include teaching Academy Theatre classes as well as serving as an Academic Advisor; supervising, advising and mentoring students, and all production and operations aspects pertaining to scenic design, construction, lighting, and sound design and implementation. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
Serves as an integral member of the educational team, participating in curriculum discussions, script selection, and the entire learning process.
Supervises job duties and day to day responsibilities for the Assistant Technical Director, technical theatre students, volunteers, and/or others providing technical support.
Assists in recruiting, training, assignment, and supervision of volunteer, student or paid technical staff for individual shows.
Actively leads and manages pre- through post-production technical project phases
Manages and directs the operation of the technical stage facilities and equipment
Assists with the preparation and control of departmental and production budgets; maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.
Position Details:
Work Year: 10.5 Months
School Year: 2025-2026
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, Frequent morning, evening, and weekend hours to accommodate production needs, Schedule may vary based on operational needs
Faculty Salary Range*: $68,927 - $139,363 - Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Theatre, Theatre, or related field. Master’s Degree in Theatre preferred.
Three (3) years of proven experience in theatrical set design and construction
Three (3) years of experience as a teacher of middle school or high school students.
Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity
Deep knowledge of discipline area.
Contemporary knowledge of construction and set design, lighting design, stage rigging, audio and sound reinforcement, stage management or production management, professional standards of stage safety, current technical theatre trends and technological innovations.
