Compensation and Benefits:

Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Education
School of Music
The Illinois Wesleyan University School of Music invites applications for Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Education. The position includes oversight of the Music Education program, supervising students throughout student teacher placements, coordination between the institution and school placements, and instruction of music education courses, as well as liaison with an accelerated Masters program with the Longy School of Music. This position is a full time, nine month, on-campus, benefits-eligible position. Benefits include health care plan, considerable time off and access to tuition programs for employees and dependents.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will teach and mentor undergraduate students, as well as be in charge of all music education area activities, including but not limited to serving as faculty advisor for our Illinois Collegiate Music Education Association student organization, inviting guest educators, overseeing student teachers, and coordinating with the School of Educational Studies. The candidate will teach courses in Foundations/Principles of Music Education, Elementary Music Methods, and Instrumental Music Methods. Additionally, the successful candidate will contribute to the University’s Shared Curriculum Program and teach in other areas of expertise based on the candidate’s strengths, as needed and as permitted by their teaching load (3-3). Along with all other colleagues, they will actively engage in the School of Music's recruiting efforts.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Music Education, or commensurate experience; expertise in current music education trends, technological advancements, and pedagogical principles for general and instrumental classrooms; and will be committed to the effort of creating an inclusive atmosphere where talented students of all backgrounds can thrive. A teaching background in a secondary educational setting is preferred.
