Key Responsibilities:
Performs general advising to students on issues of immigration, travel, employment, financial and personal issues, cultural shock and academic adjustment. 20%
Maintains, analyzes, and assures quality of data within the ISSO and its reporting functions to the U.S. Department of Homeland Securityâ™s Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Performs necessary actions in TerraDotta, PeopleSoft and SEVIS as required with advising functions to international graduate and undergraduate students. Performs ISSO check-ins. 35%
Performs advising/workshops on travel and visa renewal issues, visa status extensions, taxes, employment issues, cross-cultural awareness-plans and executes support programs for international students and scholars and their dependents. 15%
Generate documents for newly admitted students. Assists in communication with students/scholars concerning their visa documents. 20%
Demonstrated experience working as a Designated School Official and/or Alternate Responsible Officer in a college or university setting.
Experience in working with a diverse community in a higher education setting.
Excellent computer skills and experience in web-based applications and data management.
Strong organization and analytic skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy in preparing immigration documents and reports.
Comfort working in a multitasking environment is essential.
Creative problem solving/troubleshooting.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to communicate effectively with people from other cultures; attention to detail; U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status required by regulation (to serve as J-1 Alternate Responsible Officer); working knowledge of F and J visa regulations and SEVIS.
