Packer seeks a motivated, dedicated, and caring individual in the Pre and Lower School to provide counseling to students and families in the division for the academic year 2025-2026. As a Pre/Lower School counselor, this individual is responsible for individual and group needs assessments and support, and developing behavioral and emotional interventions for use in the classroom. They will partner with our teaching faculty and families to support students’ physical, emotional, and social wellness throughout their time in the Pre/Lower School.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Lower School Psychologist, Head of PS/LS and PS/LS Student Support Teams
Stay abreast of current best practices in school counseling
Provide short-term individual counseling and consistently document on student support and progress
Create and implement small group objectives, activities, and outcomes for group counseling
Provide push-in support in the classrooms to promote social and emotional wellbeing and learning, and model classroom management strategies and techniques
Collaborate with teachers on SEL curriculum development
Make regular presentations to families and colleagues on wellness and childhood development-related issues
Collect data and other information to analyze needs and evaluate programs
Create and maintain an external network of mental health professionals and outside support services including speech/language therapists, OT’s and child psychologists
Act as a resource for understanding PK-4th grade childhood development for families and teachers
Respond to crises, including separation and loss
Oversee any other matters pertaining to community health
Regularly meets with Pre/Lower School faculty and cross-divisional mental health team
Attend all appropriate school meetings and events (including some after school)
Requirements:
Previous school counseling experience
Must be a Licensed School Counselor, or hold a similar degree (MSW, LMHC) or hold an advanced degree in Psychology
Must be able to develop high levels of trust and comfort with all types of students
Knowledgeable about the developmental stages of early childhood through elementary-aged children
Familiar with strategies for dealing with learning differences, and social, emotional, and behavioral regulation

Salaries are determined based on a scale reflecting years of teaching experience and level of education.
