JOB OPENING – ENERGY SERVICES TECHNICIAN
DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Energy Services Supervisor, the Energy Services Technician performs the necessary duties to establish and ensure the execution of GVP's Interconnection Policy and energy service functions and programs.
The Energy Services Technician provides exceptional service to GVP and its members by offering expertise and solutions to assist members in meeting their electric energy goals. This position will advise members on services related to energy use, including, but not limited to, energy conservation and efficiency, net metering, community solar, microgrid, energy storage, demand response, beneficial electrification, and other programs and services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Serve as a trusted Energy Advisor for members inquiring about distributed energy resources, rate classes, and energy bills, including individual consultations via phone, email, and in person.
Works independently under the supervision of the Energy Services Supervisor. Makes independent decisions to satisfy consumer and GVP expectations. Must be self-driven and motivated to identify, prioritize, and complete tasks.
Responsible for assisting in developing and implementing GVP's energy services programs.
Advises consumers on the efficient use of electricity and provides energy-related education on the economics of varied fuel sources, alternative electrical options, and energy efficiency practices.
Meets with GVP consumers and addresses concerns about energy usage. Develops measurement plans and performs energy calculations to measure and verify energy use and savings opportunities. Handles customer inquiries and complaints and initiates actions to handle the situation individually or seeks assistance from other departments within GVP when such help is needed.
Reviews distributed energy resource (DER) interconnection applications for completeness and compliance with GVP's Interconnection Policy. Assists and advises members on questions and concerns throughout the interconnection process. Performs field in-service inspections of interconnections. Verify all DERs follow GVP's interconnection policy.
Studies, recommends, develops, and facilitates energy services-related programs, including DERMS, electric vehicles, distributed generation, battery storage, and energy efficiency.
Performs continual research and stays apprised of current trends within the electric utility industry.
Assists the Energy Services Supervisor in the annual implementation of plans related to energy services.
Participates in community organizations and workshops on energy efficiency, renewable energy, emerging technologies, and program development.
Work with the Communication Department to drive brand standards and ensure the high quality and consistency of the Company's professional image in all communications and related collateral.
Keeps the Energy Services Supervisor informed on all issues of importance concerning GVP.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
An associate’s or technical degree in energy that demonstrates the skills and knowledge to work in the energy sector is required. Additional experience in energy auditing, thermography, HVAC design, or photovoltaic design may substitute for some education. Candidate must have experience in customer relations and energy use theory and practice. Knowledge of distributed generation systems, HVAC, lighting, motors, and refrigeration systems is preferred. Knowledge of construction practices/processes and ability to interpret blueprints and one-lines preferred. Experience in project coordination is a plus. Must have or be able to obtain energy auditor certification or equivalent technical energy auditing skill certification as a position requirement. Must also have or be able to receive professional solar electric design and installation certification as a position requirement. Previous experience working in an electric utility or cooperative is preferred. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are required. Strong communication, public speaking, and proficient computer skills are required.
