Basic Function and Responsibility:
The Equity Coordinator for Asian and Pacific Islander Student Success serves within the Office of Access, Equity, and Diversity and is responsible for developing and implementing programs and services that support the academic success, personal growth, and leadership development of Asian and Pacific Islander students at Oakton College. The Coordinator will work closely with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for Asian students. The position is responsible for developing and implementing critical initiatives designed to support the college's Asian and Pacific Islander student populations in collaboration with campus stakeholders, including but not limited to the Office of Student Life and Campus Inclusion (SLCI), and the Center for Campus Inclusion and Diversity (CCID).
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day implementation of the Asian and Pacific Islander Student Success program. Plan, implement, and assess program components and services.
Monitor and manage the budget for the Asian and Pacific Islander Student Success program.
Provide academic coaching for a selected cohort of students engaged with the Asian and Pacific Islander Student Success program.
Coordinate program assessment and continuous improvement initiatives with the intention of identifying and closing equity gaps for the Asian and Pacific Islander student population at Oakton.
Work closely with identified student clubs and organizations to communicate with Asian and Pacific Islander students regularly during the academic year about student success opportunities. Partner with club advisors for Asian and Pacific Islander student groups. Serve as an advocate to effectively monitor and assess the on-campus experiences of Asian and Pacific Islander students. Organize intentional outreach to students who identify as Asian and Pacific Islander.
Develop and promote the Asian and Pacific Islander Student Success program through internal and external marketing and media presence, including social media, online, and print resources.
Plan and implement cultural and educational activities and opportunities for participants, specifically: activities that promote personal growth and identity development, students' academic path and resources, and leadership development opportunities. Coordinate identified student cultural activities, including, but not limited to end-of-year celebration activities for the Asian and Pacific Islander Student Success program. This may include some evening and weekend hours in which limited travel may be necessary.
Empower, develop, and lead a small team of student equity advocates to plan, develop, and execute social justice programming and cultural celebrations.
Work closely and actively collaborate with fellow Equity Coordinators on programming and implementation of program services. Additionally, develop partnerships with existing campus initiatives serving traditionally underrepresented student populations to provide educational activities and programming that supports the college's strategic plan, equity plan and other guiding institutional priorities as related to equity-informed work (i.e. AANAPISI grant personnel, TRIO, Emory Williams Academy, Financial Aid, First Year Experience Coordinator, etc.).
Coordinate, lead and maintain communication and meetings with the Asian and Pacific Islander Student Success program advisory group.
Coordinate organizational presence and participation at identified campus-wide enrollment events and programs. Work closely with SLCI, CCID staff and campus partners to coordinate Asian heritage month programming.
Submit reports on the Asian and Pacific Islander Student Success program as needed for institutional and divisional reporting purposes. Including, but not limited to an annual report to the Dean of Access, Equity, and Diversity at the conclusion of the academic year.
Serve as a liaison and advocate for undocumented student issues and matters such as application process, financial aid, and scholarships. Provide referral services to appropriate campus resources.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required.
2-3 years of experience working with Asian and Pacific Islander students in a higher education setting.
Strong understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities facing Asian and Pacific Islander students.
Knowledge and experience with programming initiatives and support services related to diversity, inclusion and student development theory.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative programs and services.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to supporting practices that cultivate a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Student Personnel, Higher Education or related field.
Experience with advising and counseling students and recognized student organizations.
Experience with leading or coordinating campus-wide student success initiatives
Academic and/or student development advising
Budget management
Supervision of staff or student employees
Physical Demands:
Mobility to move from building to building on-campus and to visit off-campus entities. Work is performed in a general office environment and is sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.

Administrative supervision is received from the Dean of Access, Equity, and Diversity.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional supervision may be exercised over student employees.
HOURS: 8:15 am - 5:00 pm - Monday - Friday
SALARY: The hourly salary of this position is $25.79 which equates to $51,982 annualized based on Oakton's summer hours schedule.
Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have a hybrid schedule option available after 30 working days.
