1. Supports the Physical Safety Officer in providing safety expertise, leadership, and direction in campus risk assessment, mitigation, and compliance with applicable regulations and safe work practices. 2. Serves as the primary internal resource for a comprehensive tool, equipment, and shop safety program. Conducts and documents job hazard analyses for fixed and portable tools, equipment, mechanical systems, and materials handling devices in shops, utility plants, building services and maintenance areas, laboratories, and other locations throughout campus.3. Coordinates and actively participates in the Shop Safety Committee.4. Works with shop end users and supervisors to develop and implement relevant hazard controls and safeguarding strategies for identified hazards. Defines competencies and safety SOPs.5. Serves as the primary internal resource for the Ergonomics and Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) programs.6. Mentors EHS Safety Advisors and others in the areas of tool safety, mechanical systems and equipment, ergonomics, and other physical safety issues.7. Assists in maintaining compliance with current physical safety programs, including but not limited to Confined Space Entry, Lock Out/Tag Out, Electrical Safety, Fall Protection, Ladder Safety, and Crane Safety. Reviews programs, assesses sites and equipment, develops and provides training, and updates written programs. 8. Reviews plans for new or modified facilities, equipment and processes that may have associated physical hazards.9. Provides technical guidance on all aspects of physical safety to University administrators, supervisors, faculty members, students, and staff.10. Participates in the review of student projects and activity proposals to identify potential safety hazards. Identify safe/safer alternatives and options where possible.11. Participates in incident investigations, root factor analyses, and the documentation and execution of corrective actions.12. Serves as a member of the 24/7/365 EHS Emergency Response Team for responses to hazardous materials incidents. Emergency responders are required to carry the after-hours emergency response cell phone as scheduled.13. Performs other related safety duties as required.
