We seek an Upper School Humanities teacher with a strong English Language Arts background who cultivates student writing, reading, and thinking skills in the context of strong relationships. Inkeeping with Bosque School’s mission and core values, all faculty will design learning experiencesthat inspire students to explore challenging concepts and ideas and to be daring in their pursuit ofdeep understanding. The academic program is grounded in inquiry and prizes curiosity, creativity,and critical thinking. Therefore, we seek a teacher with a demonstrated ability to teach texts and concepts frequently absent from traditional curricula through a global literary perspective whilst devoting careful attention to nuanced classroom dynamics. This teacher must be adept at guiding students through each stage of the research and writing process, with timely and constructive feedback designed to challenge and push each student’s academic skills. Duties and responsibilities
Create a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students.
Teach five classes in the regular rotation and one immersive class as assigned by Division Head(s).
Productively engage in the development, design, and delivery of immersive courses.
Provide students with thoughtful and timely formative and summative feedback in line with the school, divisional, and departmental assessment expectations. Prepare and enter grades, comments, and grade reports in accordance with school and divisional policies.
Prepare and share course descriptions in line with departmental and divisional policies and timetables.
In and outside of the classroom, model a commitment and growth mindset towards manifesting Bosque’s mission, core values, and Equity, Community and Culture Principles and Best Practices for All Employees.
Demonstrate a commitment to working with culturally diverse students, families, and colleagues and contributing to building and maintaining an inclusive community.
Actively support and stay current on the needs of and changes to formal Bosque Schoolstudent learning and medical/mental health plans. Work in collaboration with the StudentSupport Team, which could include the Learning Specialist, Nurse, Counselors, Deans, andDivision Heads to integrate student accommodations into the classroom.
Provide extra help for students, including being available during office hours/homework cafe/non-teaching periods to meet with students.
Keep parents informed in a timely manner if a student is below academic or behavioral expectations following divisional expectations (following ‘official notes’ expectations, etc).
Participate in parent/guardian conferences and parent/guardian programs at school.
Serve as an advisor to a grade-level group of students (typically 8-14 students).
Adhere to internal and external school communication guidelines.
Help with curricular and co-curricular planning, with special projects and events (such as spirit day and service day activities, Fall Fiesta, etc).
Supervise lunch time, drop off and pick up, community block, study hall (on a rotating basis), and other campus duty assignments including chaperoning dances, monitor tests when offered on campus) and examinations when and where appropriate and other school-wide or grade-level activities.
Attend and actively participate in school admissions events including open houses and testing days (when needed), and host shadowing students, admissions buddies, and parents (including on 8th grade shadow days) in an engaging manner.
Depending on divisional needs, sponsor or lead at least one major co-curricular activity per year. Examples include supervising a club or service learning group, supervising and coordinating an extracurricular program beyond the school day etc. (For a major time commitment, such as being a dean or coaching a sport, Bosque School may enter into a contract with the employee for an additional stipend or release of other duties).
Engage in at least one school wide initiative per year, examples could include participating in hiring or instructional committees.
In coordination with the College Counseling Department, write school and college recommendations, as needed.
Attend staffulty, department, and grade-level meetings, unless excused by Division Head(s), arriving on time and participating professionally throughout the meeting (not leaving early, being distracted by off task projects, or working on other projects at that time unless approved by the Division Head).
Collaboratively work with colleagues and administrators in support of the manifestation of our mission and values. When disagreements arise, lean into our “cultivating community” behaviors of coming together in moments of crisis and confusion, assuming positive intent, and seeking clarification.
Engage in the planning and execution of interdisciplinary project work.
Participate professionally and productively as a member of the Bosque community in support of students, colleagues, families, mission, values, and school culture.
Be present on campus during contracted hours, including being on time for morning meetings and present throughout office hours/homework cafe, and communicate proactively with divisional administration about any foreseeable schedule conflicts.
Model a growth mindset and engage productively in faculty meetings and professional development programs.
Acknowledge and adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Bosque SchoolEmployee Handbook.
Fulfill other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Division Head or Head of School.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required
Teaching experience or other related experience required
