Under general supervision from, and in collaboration with, the Directors of the Health Professions Advising (HPA) unit and the Health Professions Postbaccalaureate Program (HPPB), the Pre-Health Program Advisor (PHPA) provides frontline advising for students seeking information, resources, and advising regarding post-graduate health profession degree programs. In collaboration with college advising units and other UC Davis student-facing organizations, the PHPA provides advising for pre-health career students via triage of inquiries, information sessions, presentations, and workshops. The PHPA manages the student/visitor check-in and business operations for HPA and HPPB, including leadership and supervision for the HPA undergraduate peer advisors.The PHPA functions as the first point of contact in a hybrid advising environment, managing and triaging student inquiries via email, in-person, phone, and Zoom drop-ins. The incumbent utilizes an academic support service model to address questions and concerns and shares professional knowledge and strategies related to exploring health profession fields. In addition, the PHPA guides students to the correct advising resources within HPA/HPPB, test prep workshops, campus tutoring resources, or their college advising unit as appropriate.In collaboration with the health professions events and marketing coordinator (EMC), who provides up-to-date informational resources and materials, the PHPA facilitates student programming in small- to mid-sized workshops regarding pre-requisite courses typically required for admission to various health profession degree programs and other pre-health topics. The PHPA liaises between HPA/HPPB and other campus partners to promote pre-health career guidance for UC Davis undergraduate students.The PHPA coordinates and oversees efficient day-to-day business operations for HPA and HPPB. Functions include but are not limited to managing unit purchasing and inventory, reconciling expenses, managing unit programming calendars, building/space equipment and supply management, and safety coordination. In consultation with HPA/HPPB leadership, the PHPA develops and implements systems to increase the efficiency and organization of business operations.In partnership with the directors, the PHPA supports the recruitment, hiring, supervision, coordination, and training of the undergraduate peer advisor team. Ensures the peer advisors can support or redirect advising questions to the appropriate pre-health advisor and have practical, experiential learning opportunities.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences, student advising or services or a related area, or the equivalent combination of experience and training.
Experience working in high-traffic hybrid (in-person and virtual) settings with strong customer service skills and acumen to effectively triage and meet the needs of undergraduate students and campus partners.
Experience advising and counseling students in a higher education or university setting, including collaborating with colleagues and other campus units to guide students in academic difficulty to appropriate resources and support.
Organizational skills to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, establish goals, organize projects, procure and reconcile transactions for office/program materials, and meet multiple and competing deadlines, requiring time management efficiency, attention to detail, and skills to establish goals and workload priorities under general supervision.
Ability to demonstrate oral, written, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, individual correspondence, mass communications, and small or large group settings.
Preferred Qualifications
Political acumen and knowledge of multicultural competencies to represent the university in interactions with diverse internal and external constituencies, including student, staff, faculty, and alumni populations.
Skills in service orientation, organizational efficiency, active listening, and critical thinking to support HPA/HPPB's hybrid business model.
General knowledge of health profession post-graduate search techniques, application processes and portals (AMCAS, AADSAS, AACOMAS, CASPA, PTCAS, VMCAS, OTCAS), pre-requisite course requirements, career coaching techniques, and career decision-making tools.
