The Frederick Gunn School, founded in 1850, is a co-ed boarding and day school for students in grades 9-12, as well as a post-graduate year. Mr. Gunn had a deep appreciation for the natural world, believing that in nature students understand themselves as humans and their place in the world. He took a principled stand against slavery and spurred students (and the town at large) to examine their beliefs. Summary We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly qualified STEM educator to join our community at The Frederick Gunn School. The ideal candidate will have the expertise and contribute to the Science department through instruction in Engineering, with the ability to teach and inspire students across multiple levels. With a strong background in both theoretical and applied science, particularly in laboratory settings, this position offers an exciting opportunity to shape the academic journey of curious and motivated students in an independent boarding school environment. In addition, this role entails key responsibilities as a coach, house parent, and student advisor.
Key Responsibilities:
Ability to teach Engineering, post-secondary-level Mathematics with the potential of Physics across various levels, from introductory to advanced courses, incorporating theoretical knowledge and practical application.
Deliver engaging lessons, hands-on laboratory experiments, and engineering design challenges that inspire students to think critically and problem-solve.
Integrate advanced mathematical concepts into the science curriculum, ensuring students understand the interconnectedness of math, physics, and engineering.
Mentor students, offering academic support and guidance in their individual scientific and personal development.
Create a dynamic, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment that fosters collaboration, inquiry, and a love for learning.
Supervise students in lab settings, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment, and maintaining the appropriate equipment and resources.
Collaborate with colleagues within and outside the Science/Math department.
Contribute to extracurricular programs, such as robotics clubs, science fairs, and student research projects, to further students' hands-on experience in STEM fields.
Job Details
Position opening for the 2025-2026 school year. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. There may also be an opportunity to begin in the spring of 2025.

Qualifications:
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics related field (required). Master’s Degree or equivalent professional credentials..
Strong background in both engineering and physics, with experience in applying mathematical concepts at the post-secondary level. A minimum of 3 years of teaching or professional experience, is preferred.
Proven ability to teach complex scientific and engineering principles in an engaging and accessible manner.
A passion for STEM education, with a focus on fostering students' critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills.
Ability to work effectively with students of diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, faculty, and parents.
