We are seeking a full-time high school English teacher, starting September 2025. English at Dalton is taught in discussion-based seminars, with an emphasis on cultivating a thoughtful, intellectually curious approach to literature that elicits both the joy and the seriousness of literary analysis. We are a collegial and engaged department committed to inclusive and anti-racist pedagogical work, and we seek a candidate who shares that commitment. Our ideal candidate is passionate and knowledgeable about high school students, literature, and writing; they are an experienced writing pedagogue with strong skills in teaching close reading and analysis. The position will entail teaching a combination of courses in our core English curriculum: 9th grade (Literature and Composition), 10th grade (Introduction to Poetry and Drama), 11th grade (American Literature), and 12th grade specialized electives. Many faculty also serve as advisors. In your cover letter, please highlight any experience teaching these or related courses, and address the role that equity and inclusion work has played in your teaching and advisory practices. We would be particularly eager to hear about any expertise in the teaching of Asian Anglophone literature, Asian literature, non-Western literature, and/or other world literatures.

Responsibilities:
Teach 4-5 English classes (combination of 9th-12th grades)
Design engaging curricula and lesson plans, working with others in the department
Engage actively in departmental and school-wide diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism efforts
Work one-on-one with students daily for support and enrichment
Participate in departmental and school-wide initiatives such as additional student writing lab support, Intersession, and/or other projects as needed
Relevant teaching experience required; high school teaching experience preferred
Demonstrated commitment to equitable and inclusive practices, with respect to pedagogy, curriculum, literary interests, and community engagement
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Facility with and willingness to learn educational technologies
