Saint John's Preparatory School invites applications for the full-time (.80 fte), benefit eligible position of Faculty Resident to begin immediately. This position is a 10-month position and runs August - May.
Saint John's Preparatory School is a Catholic/Benedictine, co-educational, day and boarding college preparatory school for students in grades 6-12, with boarding options beginning in the 9th grade. Saint John's Prep is located on the 3,000 acres of woods and lakes of Saint John's University's campus in central Minnesota. Prep has continuously dedicated itself to both educational development and personal formation.
Faculty Residents work collaboratively to monitor and support Saint Michael Residence Hall, a newly renovated space connected to Saint John's Prep. Faculty Residents are expected to utilize their independent judgment when making decisions related to residential students' supervision. They are expected to be prepared to make critical, sometimes life-impacting decisions as the first responder for students' needs during non-office hours, including nights and weekends.
Faculty Residents will oversee and interact dynamically with students in the hall and academic building; suggest, create, and participate in activities; provide academic instruction and tutoring to support academic performance; communicate with school personnel as needed; make decisions related to discipline and safety issues and administer medications and other duties.

2. Advise a small group of students for the academic year, instructing them on independent living skills and wellness. Deliver direct instruction as it relates to wellness, life skills, and academic skills to achieve academic success and assist in navigating the academic environment. Monitor and support the development of these skills.
3. Supervise, lead and provide academic tutoring in the After School Study Program (3:15-5:30 PM) and Lunch Supervision (11:20-12:10) once or twice per week as assigned by the Director of Residential Life.
4. Create an academically focused After School Study and residential environment that supports student success and learning. Successfully merge student goals with teachers, guidance counselors, and parent communications to promote academic achievement. Provide tutoring and deliver academic support as needed, deliver remedial instruction/teaching, and proctoring exams as needed.
5. Directly monitor and support residents' academic, emotional, developmental needs and progress by facilitating essential medical requirements to minors, transporting them to medical/dental appointments, and advocating their needs to third-party persons.
6. Support and provide instruction for students with residential/roommate conflicts, academic needs, emotional, physical, mental health crises, acts of intolerance, and substance abuse situations. Work in collaboration on students of concern with the Director of Res Life, guidance/academic counselors, and parents.
7. Responsible for facilitating and instructing school safety programs, including disaster preparedness, emergency drills, safe environment training, and related safety training.
8. Weekly develop, implement, and promote community events to establish connections and relationships. Merge programming ideas grounded in best practices and institutions' values.
9. Effectively communicate student issues with the Res Life team, parents, faculty, and other support staff daily or as concerns arise. Create and coordinate follow-up plans based on information from these sources as well.
10. Demonstrate inclusive behavior and create a socially just community where differences are celebrated. Bring together students from many different countries to develop an internationally focused community. To make this community will require professional development.
11. Serve on an on-call rotation to cover nights and weekends and act as the first responder to residential concerns and issues. As the first responder, your decision in crisis will be critical to our student's success and well-being.
12. Monitor and promote community spaces with residential and day students after school in Saint Michael Hall at the After School Study Program. RDs will supervise all students who stay beyond the bell (3:15 pm on school days) in the common spaces.
13. Document any violations of the residential policies; serve as a conduct officer as needed.
14. Monitor and assess the physical environment of the residence hall through on-duty rounds. Facilitate the resolution of facility concerns, maintenance, repairs, and cleanliness. Monitor and report any concerns.
15. Work within the provided budget for residence hall programming funds.
16. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Residential Life.
Education: Bachelor's degree ? Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. The ability to drive our fleet vehicles, which includes a 14-passenger van. o Insurance requires a minimum age of 20 to drive our vehicles.
