Job Description:
The Director of Clinical Education for the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program leads the development and maintenance of supervised clinical practice experiences and works collaboratively with faculty within the Dwight Schar College of Nursing and Health Sciences and Ashland University. The Director of Clinical Education is responsible for ensuring that the supervised clinical practice experiences provide opportunities for PA students to become practice-ready upon graduation.
The Director of Clinical Education is responsible for ensuring that the clinical phase of the program guarantees the PA students readiness to practice upon graduation, leads students through their clinical education experience, coordinates clinical principal and instructional faculty and supports ARC-PA compliance and self-study related to the clinical curriculum.
Support the mission of Ashland University and Dwight Schar College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Support Ashland University's philosophy of Accent on the Individual.
Development and review of the mission statement of the PA Program.
Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of the clinical curriculum including ensuring course syllabi maintain compliance with ARC-PA Standards.
Review and revision, as necessary, of the program goal and competencies.
Development and maintenance of supervised clinical practice experiences for students.
Administrative oversight of the clinical year database including clinical sites, preceptors, student information, patient logging and evaluations of sites, preceptors and students.
Administrative oversight of the clinical year including the schedule for the clinical year of education including coordination of student placement with instructional faculty during supervised clinical practice experiences.
Coordination and faculty development of instructional faculty – clinical preceptors.
Conduct onsite and video-conferenced site visits to maintain compliance with ARC-PA standards.
Ensure that the program fulfills the instructional needs of the curriculum during the clinical year according to the standards of the ARC-PA.
Assist with the development of tools to assess the effectiveness of the clinical education curriculum.
Implement and monitor the plan for evaluation of student clinical year performance.
Participate in the program's ongoing self-assessment, analysis, and accreditation processes with primary responsibility for clinical education components.
Prepare and maintain clinical year sections of the student handbook and preceptor manuals
Provide academic instruction.
Serve as an academic advisor to students.
Provide remedial instruction of clinical year students.
Participate in state and national PA organizations as necessary to promote the program and the profession.
Represent the PA program through service on committees at the University level as required.
Participate in the admissions process including student recruitment and selection.
Perform other duties as determined by negotiation at the annual performance review by the Program Director.
Agrees to not participate as a health care provider for students in the program, except in an emergency situation.
Engage in continued professional update and provide an annual report of activities to the program director.
Participates in professional development activities outside of Ashland University's PA program in areas of clinical practice, scholarly activities or advancement of educational degree as agreed upon by the Program Director.
Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree or higher is required
Must be certified by NCCPA and hold current certification
Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience as a PA
