The Professional Advisor is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experience for students in an effort to increase student retention, success and completion.
The Professional Advisor will leverage a holistic approach in assisting students with goal setting and providing continuous communication and follow-up to maximize goal attainment.
The Professional Advisor will demonstrate and promote a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
Advise prospective and current student cohorts on specific academic matters including but not limited to: choosing a course/major, course load, withdrawal/termination process, schedule adjustment, and career and transfer opportunities.
Participates in all retention and completion activities, including but not limited to Early Alert advising.
Provide and analyze data on student progress and completion rates.
Connect students to academic and student service resources to support student success.
Engage with faculty, academic departments and professional staff in student related services.
Participate in events including but not limited to: Open House, High School Recruitment, New Student Orientation, Career and Transfer events.
Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
Develop and deliver orientations, workshops, seminars, and other professional development topics to all stakeholders, both in-person and online.
Attend staff meetings.
Provide services at all three college locations, both in-person and virtually.
Creates a welcoming and efficient environment by greeting students, answering the phone in a professional manner and responding to email in a timely fashion, etc.
Ability to work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
Follow all college policies, procedures and processes.
Participate in committees and activities as assigned.
Comply with all safety, fire, and smoking regulations.
Complete all mandatory compliance and safety training as scheduled by Human Resources.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree required, Master's preferred.
Experience in academic advisement; Community College and Guided Pathways to Success framework preferred.
Excellent customer service skills, including, but not limited to friendliness, courteousness, thoroughness and flexibility.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, leadership, facilitation, and training skills
Ability to work as a part of a cross-functional team in an innovative environment, and independently as needed.
Excellent computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, LMS, Self Service, Early Alert Systems, Video Conferencing and others as needed.
Ability to plan and prioritize multiple tasks.
Demonstrated commitment to professional development and improvement.
