Job Description Summary | The College of Engineering invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Associate Dean for Research to begin entering the position approximately Nov. 15, 2022, and fully assuming the position in spring semester, 2023. The Associate Dean for Research works with the Dean and other members of the College to further the research and innovation mission of the College. They are a member of the leadership team of the college, the Engineering Council (EC), and serve as a representative of the college in areas of research and innovation to our external constituents as well as within Michigan Tech.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned) | ? Work closely with the Dean, Chairs, and other constituent groups to advance the reputation, research capabilities, and impact of the College. ? Lead and assist in the formation of interdisciplinary research groups. ? Lead and assist with college and department efforts to secure and support large, externally funded research awards. ? Lead and where appropriate, oversee the development of external partnerships with corporations, foundations, and individuals. ? Develop approaches that will enable more researchers to innovate and incorporate entrepreneurship. ? Enhance communication and relationships between units on campus. ? Advocate for research support, opportunities, and collaborations with all areas of the university. ? Represent the Dean of Engineering or Chairs when needed. ? Oversee the physical infrastructure needs of the college as a whole, and serve as the point of contact for space reallocation matters. ? Manage cost-share commitments, space, and other research resources as assigned. ? Support internal grant processes. ? Other duties as assigned. |
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements) | ? A Ph.D. in engineering or a closely related field. ? Tenured faculty member |
Required Experience (minimum requirements) | ? Budget and grant management experience. ? Track record of having secured research funding. |
Desirable Education and/or Experience | ? Experience/connections with industry, government labs, funding agencies, foundations. ? Experience in successfully working with diverse individuals. |
