The Community Wellness Trainer, under the supervision of the Director of Community Restoration and Consultation, will play an integral role in the Catalyst Center’s training development and delivery of statewide training for non-behavioral health professionals as funded by the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI). Training is intended to center youth voices while equipping adults in diverse communities throughout the state with knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to youth substance use and other behavioral health concerns. The Community Wellness Trainer will provide ongoing consultation, training, and technical assistance to communities and their youth-serving organizations across the state of California.
Duties:
Collaborate in the development and delivery of training to prepare non-behavioral health professionals to recognize and respond to youth substance use and other behavioral health concerns; ensure that youth voice is centered throughout the training curriculum and delivery
Collaborate in the development and delivery of a train the trainer curriculum and training that expands capacity for this curriculum to be used broadly
Develop and provide statewide technical assistance and trainings to support communities and their service providers support children, youth, and families who experience or are at risk of co-occurring substance use disorder(s) and other behavioral health needs, with an emphasis on the needs of youth experiencing or at risk of the following:
Housing insecurity;
Involvement in the juvenile justice system; and/or
Involvement in the child welfare system.
Develop and distribute written and digital materials, resources, and toolkits for distribution
Participate in regularly updating training curriculum based on new research and practices in the field
Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with providers, contractors, consultants, partners, and other stakeholders;
Maintain detailed and organized records and reports on successes, barriers, and challenges encountered during the above listed activities;
Draft written reports and presentation materials detailing the above listed activities;
Actively engage in collaboration within the organization to further diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging;
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, public health, education, or related field or equivalent work experience;
Excellent presentation skills including audience engagement
Experience delivering interactive training to adult learners and trainers
Knowledge of child welfare, behavioral health, education, and juvenile justice systems;
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and belonging;
High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently;
Strong ability to take personal initiative, work both independently and as a team member, collaborate and coordinate with others;
Technical fluency in MS Office (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and technical comfort with virtual platforms such as Zoom;
Ability to anticipate needs, exercise good judgment, and think critically to proactively problem-solve in a fast-paced environment;
Ability to adapt to dynamic environments and comfort with ambiguity and complexity;
Values listening to and honoring the wisdom of people with lived expertise and practice-based experience;

Preferred Qualifications
Clinical graduate degree strongly preferred;
Experience engaging with youth leaders in the development and/or provision of youth-focused initiatives;
Knowledge and experience in substance use disorder prevention, programming, and training;
Knowledge and experience with Restorative approaches to youth and/or community services.
Compensation and Additional Information:
While this position is primarily remote, travel to in-person events is required to fulfill job duties. Travel will be necessary to provide on-site training, participate in conferences, attend annual staff retreats, and build collaborations at the community level.
