Position Summary: This is a new position to lead a newly created Department of Public Health which will house the undergraduate Public Health program, the new Master of Public Health (MPH) program, the new Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) program, and the undergraduate Health Science program.
The qualified candidate will: 1. Coordinate departmental activities regarding teaching, learning, advising and assessment. This includes both short- and long-term planning, definition of departmental goals and objectives, planning for and monitoring the achievement of those goals and objectives, overseeing the development of the curriculum, and planning for new or upgraded facilities in the classroom or the lab.2. Oversee the departmental budget. Evaluate requests for funding from departmental, University, or external sources. Maintain awareness of all departmental grant activity.3. Evaluate any faculty members reporting to them on an annual basis or as needed. This includes the review of all course evaluation results for these faculty.4. Help to resolve disputes among the faculty or between students and the faculty that have not been resolved with a program director (if applicable).5. Act as a liaison and advocate for the students and faculty of the department with: the University administration at the Dean's level and above; in departmental interactions with other departments; and with alumni and the public.6. Convey to the department information from administrative meetings to which only the Chair is invited.7. Deliver schedules to the Registrar for courses offered by the department for each term of the academic year.8. Recruit full-time or adjunct faculty as necessary.9. Support and promote the professional development of the faculty in the department.10. Assign students to the faculty for advising; evaluate the faculty in their capacity as advisors and makes them aware of resources that will help them to improve if needed.11. Ensure that annual programmatic assessment is completed.12. Collaborate with Admissions on the development of departmental fact sheets, in securing representation at recruitment events, and in coordinating departmental connections with accepted students.13. Ensure that affiliation agreements involving the department are developed and maintained as necessary.14. Support the activities of any student groups housed within the department.15. Manage the department's compliance with accreditation standards and oversees the process of applying for accreditation, if applicable.16. Review and revise graduate and undergraduate catalogs, web pages, and other departmental publications as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Education: Terminal degree relevant to disciplines within the department.Experience: A minimum of 3 years higher education experience. Must possess the necessary disciplinary expertise to provide a viable vision for the programs within the department.University Mission: Must be able to support and promote the University's inclusive Mission, its Catholic identity, and its liberal arts and professional education traditions.
Preferred Qualifications: Five years or more experience in higher education. Three years of leadership experience in higher education. Experience with curriculum development, accreditation, and outcomes assessment.
